Today we're going to have a little recap of our most important releases during this last year.
2017 has been pretty exciting, we had many big new titles and expansions, as well as some huge announcements for the next year (but we'll think about these tomorrow!).

Let's start with Slitherine's games:
- Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach. Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach is a 3D turn-based strategy game like you’ve never seen before: fast, immediate, deep, impressive to look at and incredibly fun! Fight through a dark era of carnage and endless war and lead the Space Wolves in a struggle to defend the last bastion of mankind.
It also received two expansions already, Legacy of the Weirdboy and Sons of Cadia!

- Afghanistan '11. Afghanistan '11 is the sequel to the highly praised and innovative Vietnam '65. It enhances and builds on it: Afghanistan '11 changes the paradigm of wargaming and manages to bring Counter-Insurgency and guerrilla warfare to your screen, properly represented thanks to a revolutionary gameplay formula! It is also available on iOS, so check it out!

- Carrier Deck. Carrier Deck is a fast-paced time management game where you play as the Air Boss on board the CVN-76 in the midst of active war. Just like Afghanistan '11, this game is also available for iOS.

- Field of Glory II. Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC. The game that brought the fun and excitement of the tabletop experience to digital form is back. Developed by legendary designer Richard Bodley Scott in a completely new 3D engine, Field of Glory is ready to set new standards in computer wargaming. The first expansion, Immortal Fire, came out exactly a week ago so check it out as well!

- Battlestar Galactica Deadlock. In Battlestar Galactica Deadlock™ you’ll take command of the Colonial Fleet in defense of the Twelve Colonies during the First Cylon War. Lead many different types of ships in this 3D tactical game. Every decision counts, your strategy will be vital – can you ensure mankind’s survival?
BSG Deadlock was one of our most awaited releases this year, and it has already received an expansion called Reinforcement Pack a few days ago. Last week, it was also released on PS4 and XB1, and we're currently running a Christmas giveaway where you can win a free copy for your console! Click HERE to join!

- Honorable Mention for Order of Battle: World War II, which received 4 expansions during this last year! Burma Road, Kriegsmarine, Blitzkrieg and Panzerkrieg!

Matrix Games time:
- The Operational Art of War IV. The Operational Art of War IV is the new generation of operational wargames. With more flexibility than before and with a new array of exciting features, it will make you relive the most iconic battles from the dawn of the 20th Century to modern day, including the ones that never occurred! TOAW IV is definitely a huge game, you can find the list of scenarios HERE!

- Mare Nostrvm. Mare Nostrvm is a strategy game by the developer of Qvadriga, and it is set during the turbulent war galleys era, when the civilizations along the Mediterranean Sea started to extend their ambitions towards new lands.
Naval Squadrons employ real tactics of that time, and the WEGO system will force you to think three moves ahead of your opponent.

- Scourge of War Waterloo: Collector's Edition. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition. The Collector Edition includes all the DLCs that have been released for the game (Ligny, Quatre Bras and Wavre) as well as the base game. (Quick reminder that we're going to have a live stream of SoW: W today on our Twitch Channel, 11 AM EST, 4 PM GMT, 5 PM CET, so come hang out with us!)

- English Civil War. Choose your side and take command of the Cavaliers armies or the Roundheads and the Covenanters. From Scotland to Dover, from Wales to Kent the counties raise their regiments to defend the King or Parliament. To remain neutral is not a choice. Manage your resources, your loyalty, your best leaders, choose your strategy and take control of key cities.

- Honorable Mention for CMANO, which received two expansions during this year: Shifting Sands and Chains of War!

That's it for today. Did you guys play them all? If not, you definitely should!

Armored Brigade Dev Diary #1 - Artificial Intelligence

Monday, July 16, 2018

The Armored Brigade artificial intelligence (AI) is fully dynamic, which means that it can handle any scenario within the game parameters, without a need for any scripting from the scenario designer. This approach has been the basic foundation of the game. I've always found the procedurally generated game content fascinating, and that can be seen in the design philosophy of Armored Brigade.

In Armored Brigade, there's an undefined number of maps, units, environmental conditions, and so on. The system must build a readable representation, process the input and then produce output that creates a credible impression of intelligence that behaves in a realistic, unpredictable and challenging manner. That's quite a challenge indeed. A "chess AI", where you have a finite number of possible states, is out of the question.

Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Orks units preview

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Heavily-muscled, aggressive, eight-foot-tall fungal thugs with a love of warfare, the Orks were a spacefaring peril long before the human Imperium entered the galactic scene. Spread evenly across the galaxy, for the most part they are an irritant to any other inhabitants, like lazy, belligerent neighbours. But occasionally, as a swarm of locusts, the scattered tribes and clans form into a Waaagh! – something between a crusade and a riot – and devastate entire sectors until they run out of things to fight and fall instead into internecine warfare.
