New Patch for Free Wargaming Classic

Matrix Games is pleased to announce the availability of a new patch for Steel Panthers:  World at War.  Version 8.40 brings about 14 minor bug fixes and can be applied on top of v8.30 installations.  This update works for both the freely downloadable full Steel Panthers: World at War as well as the General’s Edition collection of Mega-Campaigns.

The 8.40 patch makes a wide variety of improvements, mostly focused on the “long” World War 2 scenario.  Additionally several adjustments were devised to improve the game, including reinforcement allocations, troop morale values when a leader is absent, and reduced visibility in sandstorms.  The Steel Panthers World at War v8.40 update is available from the Matrix Games website at www.matrixgames.com.

Steel Panthers: World at War is a free, downloadable Windows-compatible wargaming classic from the Matrix Games team, available from a variety of major game download sites.

Steel Panthers:  World at War is a tactical wargame that puts you in command of the Allied or Axis powers in a number of scenarios during World War 2.  Steel Panthers: World At War was recognized as the Charles S. Roberts Best 20th Century Wargame (2000) and has delighted war game fans since its initial release.  Based on the Hall of Fame Steel Panthers series of old, Steel Panthers: World at War is updated and overhauled with better graphics, more detailed orders of battle and improved combat and command modeling.  More importantly, it is fully Windows compatible, allowing the latest computers to experience this wargaming classic.

Steel Panthers:  World at War General’s Edition includes the complete free Steel Panthers: World at War and also includes all 4 massive historical Mega-Campaigns. With an original branching campaign engine and meticulous attention to detail, the Mega-Campaigns set a new standard in tactical campaign play.  Each Mega-Campaign allows you to follow in the footsteps of a historical leader and the four together cover the Pacific, North Africa, France and the Eastern Front.  The General’s Edition is available for purchase from the Matrix Games online store.

To End All Wars and Commander: The Great War 50% Discounted!

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

The 1918 Kaiserschlacht (or Spring Offensive) was the last attempt by the German High Command to make a breakthrough in the Western Front.

On the 21st  of March 1918, a series of attacks along the front line held by the British Fifth and Third Army began. Strengthened by divisions coming from the Eastern Front and with an extended use of troops trained in infiltration and assault tactics (Stormtroopers), the Germans were able to achieve the largest territory advance of the war.

However, this all-out offensive didn’t gain a decisive victory. The Germans lost irreplaceable veteran troops and the conquest of the new territories resulted in hard to defend positions with a supply line that was stretched too far.
