Posted: Monday, September 20, 2004 by Matrix Support

Type: Update

New Version of Innovative Space Combat Simulation Available Now! Matrix Games and Destroyer Studios are pleased to announce version 4.0.3 of the exciting new 3-D space combat simulator, Starshatter. Released this summer, Starshatter is the next generation in space combat simulation games. The new update, version 4.0.3, is a comprehensive patch that updated every version of Starshatter. Compared to the original release version, it includes 45 fixes and enhancements, including a new updated version of the built in Magic modeling software for mod-makers. The most important improvements since 4.0.2 are some rare crash fixes, improved AI fighter landing behavior and addition of specular texture map support. We recommend that all Starshatter players update to this release.

Starshatter extends the gameplay concepts of the classic space sims by combining fighter and starship combat in a single game. You begin the game as either a fighter pilot or the commander of a small starship. As you progress through the game, you can earn promotions and awards until you are commanding a massive fleet carrier with three wings of fighters and a complete escort of warships.

Starshatter integrates elements of real-time-strategy games by allowing fleet commanders to direct the battle on a tactical level, launching fighters and directing destroyers to defend the fleet and annihilate enemy forces. You will arm fighters for patrol or strike missions. You will send orders to your escorting destroyers and frigates to engage enemy starships or defend the fleet from attack by enemy fighters. You are the admiral, and you decide how to employ all of your forces in battle. It is all up to you.

Game Features:

  • Exciting and original science fiction universe
  • Integrated fighter and starship combat
  • Seamless blend of space combat simulation and real time strategy
  • Dynamic campaign engine with four dynamic campaigns
  • Easy to learn, difficult to master. Detailed training missions included.

  • Cooperative and head-to-head multiplayer mission scenarios
  • Extensive mod support – create your own ships, weapons, galaxies, and missions
  • Includes full featured built-in mission editor

  • Choose from three different flight models: newtonian, relaxed, and arcade

Field of Glory 2 Developers Diary - A.I.

    Tuesday, July 18, 2017

The AI for Field of Glory II has been developed by building on the knowledge gained from developing the generally praised AI for Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai.

    Deployment
For non-preset scenarios, it is important that the AI can deploy its army in a sensible formation, taking account of the prevailing terrain.
Generally speaking, most ancient armies would deploy with an infantry centre in one or more lines. (Usually three for Romans, usually only one for Hellenistic armies). They would then have cavalry on both wings and perhaps in reserve, plus light troops both in the centre and on the wings.

The Battle of Gettysburg, fought between the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia, is considered by many the turning point of the American Civil War.

Lasted three days, from July 1st to July 3rd, 1863, the battle saw many epic and tragic moments, culminating in the famous Pickett's Charge, the desperate frontal assault of the confederates against the unionist defensive lines at Cemetery Ridge.

Today, Shenandoah and Slitherine are very proud to release Gettysburg: The Tide Turns, the brilliant hex-based wargame that will make you relive all the hard tactical choices the Confederates and the Unionists had to take during these long and crucial days of fierce fighting.
