Back to News Listing Origins : June 24-27, 2004

Type: Review

Well we are back from Origins 2004 and we had a great time. The show was a major success and we got to finally meet so many of you and just chat. Sales for our newest games War in the Pacific, Starshatter and Steel Panthers World At War General Edition were fast and furious. Visit Origins website.

We also tried something new this year and set up a webcam at the show. We did it more for a gag but over 1,000 of you were online looking to see what was going on, and even maxed out the webcam system. Hopefully next time it will be just as successful! I just want to take a moment to thank Keith Brors from 2by3 Games, Dave O'Connor and Paul Scobell from Panther Games, Rowan and Joyce Keating from Strategic Studies Group and Russ Pearlman from Koios Works for taking their time and attending the show with us. I also like to thank Julie Kershenbaum from Armchair General and Winnie Wong from Alienware for sponsoring Matrix Games during its 2004 World Tour. Last but not least the Matrix team itself. Thank you one and all for making this a great show.

The United States is boosting their readiness in the Arctic after getting confirmation of the deployment in the region of the "Belgorod", a Russian Oscar II submarine converted for "special operations" among the Northern Fleet. This is just the latest of a long list of actions aimed to militarise the Arctic, due to the presence of high-valuable resources beneath its surface.

Field of Glory 2 Developers Diary - A.I.

    Tuesday, July 18, 2017

The AI for Field of Glory II has been developed by building on the knowledge gained from developing the generally praised AI for Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai.

    Deployment
For non-preset scenarios, it is important that the AI can deploy its army in a sensible formation, taking account of the prevailing terrain.
Generally speaking, most ancient armies would deploy with an infantry centre in one or more lines. (Usually three for Romans, usually only one for Hellenistic armies). They would then have cavalry on both wings and perhaps in reserve, plus light troops both in the centre and on the wings.
