EIA v1.25.00 Beta Hotfix#3 Available

Post by pzgndr »

Attached is the first update to the recently released v1.24.03 official patch. I must apologize for introducing a bug in v1.24.03 where minor ships cannot be built. This update fixes that and should be applied over the installed v1.24.03 game files.

Release notes so far:
Empires in Arms the Napoleonic Wars - 1.25.00
=============================================
- Minor country secondary districts stay at war despite lapse of war of controlling minor country – resolved.
- Cannot build ships for minors – resolved (error related to Algeria able to build ships but has no fleets issue in v1.24.03).
- Several 1805 EIA/EIH minor country statuses, at-start strengths, and morale discrepancies – resolved. (See Game Manual sections 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 completely updated with corrected values. Databases and tables updated accordingly.)
- AI-AI naval combat bug – resolved.
- Adding province to kingdom bug – resolved.
- Some minor diplomacy settings not cleared upon DOW – resolved.
- Rule clarification, lone transports engaged in naval combat are eliminated, not captured – resolved (see revised rule 8.3.1).
- Minor corps and fleets at war not able to engage enemy when controlling major not at war – resolved.
- Corps destroying depot should also be able to lift siege – resolved.
The download includes the updated EXE, updated .ged database files and .tpj table files, and an excerpt of the updated Game Manual with the setups and corrected minor morale values for both the classic EIA and alternate EIH versions.

The updated .tpj data files required some tedious manual editing to reset default minor morale from 2-2 to 1-2 and then reset other minor country morale values to be consistent with the EIA v3.1 and EIH v4.0 values. Some (5) EIH partial values have been rounded off for simplicity. Overall, this should now bring the game into better alignment with EIA and EIH as players should expect. Please let me know if there are any remaining discrepancies that should be corrected.

I have also made a couple of minor AI adjustments to slightly reduce the numbers of militia built and garrisons formed. I intend to make some more minor AI adjustments as I further playtest v1.25.00. Again, please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving AI performance. Thanks. Enjoy!

UPDATE 12/8/2022. Updated .ged database files now included in the download, mostly to correct some setups in the 1805 classic EIA scenario. Game EXE and Game Manual excerpt also updated.

UPDATE 12/13/2022. Made a couple more bug fixes and a couple of minor AI adjustments.

UPDATE 12/18/2022. Made a couple more bug fixes and a minor AI adjustment.

Great work!
I'll try to post in the right place this time.

There is still a discrepancy between the 1.25 manual and the amount to forces Holland gets at setup in the standard 1805 game.
According to the manual:
"FRANCE: 135 infantry, 5 Guard, 17 cavalry, 49 heavy ships, any desired corps and fleets, 8 depots, and
$45. All leaders except EUGENE and JEROME are available at the start of the game. The French player
also sets up Holland (and the Holland corps and the Holland fleet with 4 infantry, 1 cavalry, and 15 heavy
ships.)
Holland as Free State minor country; Corsica, Flanders, Hanover, Julich, Liege, Lombardy,
Luxembourg, Palatinate, Piedmont, Savoy, and Switzerland as Conquered minor countries."

However, they get 12i 2c 30h.

I know, you didn't put that fix in the changelog, this is just a friendly reminder for the future.

BTW, are you sure there are not any errors in your copy of EIA3.1 charts. My copy of the spreadsheet does not have the 30 ship fleets of several minor in your table nor full corps of Sweden.

Mine looks identical to the one on board game geek here: https://boardgamegeek.com/files/thing/254

Doh! I have that spreadsheet by iamspamus but I was so focused on the Orders of Battle tab and did not go back to the At Start Forces table in the 1805 Minors tab. I acknowledge my mistake. Oddly, nobody else has commented about this over the past couple of years and I've been more focused on bug fixes and AI improvements.

For v1.25 release, I will go back and scrutinize all of the 1805 setups for EIA and EIH. It will require updating the .ged data files, the setups, and the AI setups. That's not trivial and will take some time. But I'm hopeful that I'm at the point where genuine bugs are few and AI adjustments are minor. I'll shoot for a spring release for the next official update.

BTW, I'm serious when I say I want to get this game right. I appreciate the feedback, I really do. If something's not right, let's get it right.

Sounds like an excellent plan.

I was talking to a friend who is not on this forum but plays a longer campaign. They are not on the latest version, but he said there is a bug in their version when trying to add conq russian provinces to poland as prussia. Ill try to dublicate the situation in 1.25, but it may be a few weeks before i get there.

Did you have that reported before?

I should be able to wrap up the new data files and setups for 1805 next week. There's only Holland and Saxony in play at start, so only the French and Prussian setups may need adjustment. I think the 1812 setups are OK but I'll verify those too.

For adding provinces to already created kingdoms, this was fixed in v1.23 and rule 12.8.4 was updated. If there's a problem with adding conquered Russian provinces to Poland as Prussia, I could use a good save to debug that.

Im on my way to try to add Russian conquered provinces to Poland as Prussia, unfortunately Napoleon attacked me before i got the chance to mangle Russia, so its taking a bit of time. I did manage to stumble on another bug on the way though.

BUG: After a reinforcement phase all my corps got unplaced, with factors and all. (My minors corpses stayed on the map though). If i buy them back in the following economic phase i can place them with all the troops still in them. But its not really how its supposed to be. Where can i mail you the saves before and after the disappearance?

A clue may be that France surrendered to my ally Austria in the diplomacy phase before my corps disappeared.

You can attach zipped files to a reply here or email them to me: pzgndr at hotmail dot com. If I get good saves then I can debug the surrender issues. Not sure about why corps would get unplaced and retain their factors for later; that's odd. I'll look at it.

UPDATE 12/8/2022. EIA v1.25.00 Beta Hotfix#1 is now posted above.

Big thanks to roos for pointing out some discrepancies and working with me to update the 1805 setups. Also, the bugs he found related to AI-AI naval combat and adding provinces to kingdoms were fixed; good game saves helped to find and fix these bugs. This has been a busy and productive week for me.

I plan to move on to v1.25.01 unless there are any immediate bug reports warranting another hotfix. Please give the update a try and let me know if you find any issues or have any suggestions for improvement. The updated setups are not finalized yet; if you spot any more discrepancies or have a justification for adjustments, let me know. We'll get there.

One bug (i think) and one AI shortcoming and maybe a rules glitch too. EIH this time.
Sadly, I failed to keep the save from being overwritten.

Bug!
Russia attacks Sweden. Russia invades Stockholm with transport fleet with an escort fleet. Controlling power moves Swedish fleer to where the invasion fleet is and selects to attack the stack. No naval combat step occurs. Russia invades.

AI shortcoming!
Russia attacks Sweden. Swedish controlling player splits the fleet into 3 different ports. Russia blockades 2 Swedish fleets and invades with non-escorted transports. Controlling power moves the not blockaded fleet and captures the transport fleet and the factors.

Possible rules shortcoming!
After the above. The captured ships end up in Stockholm. Sweden can't pick them up since it doesn't have a transport fleet. The controlling MP can't pick them up as they are designated as Swedish. I don't know if this is a glitch in the EIH Rules or a misimplementation.

AI Turkey should raise feudal corps if enemy are in or adjacent to a province with a corps available for that province. If necessary, I can maybe expand this to enemy adjacent to an adjacent province. Or I can look at some other logic. Just need to be careful to not raise too much that becomes a problem. A save would be helpful to look at.

Bug!
Naples, as a PRU Inf, was DOWed by ally GB. NAP stays PRU Inf and PRU GB are still allies.

Happy hunting!

UPDATE 12/13/2022. EIA v1.25.00 Beta Hotfix#2 is now posted above.

One more hotfix for now. I made few bug fixes related to roos finding issues with Russia's DOW on Sweden. While tracking down one naval bug, I found another one when AI Britain attacked the French-controlled Swedish fleet outside Stockholm and it turned into a port attack battle instead of a sea battle. I think I fixed the minor diplomacy setting issue with Naples staying Prussian influenced. One of the AI adjustments was for AI Turkey standing up feudal corps; that should be better now.

Let's see how this goes. I do hope to move on to v1.25.01 Beta and a chance to playtest some more so I can make a few more AI adjustments. I still have a couple of minor reported bugs to find and fix. Again, please give the update a try and let me know if you find any issues or have any suggestions for improvement.

Another bug for Sweden vs Russia.

- Russia DoWs Sweden.
- Prussia (not at war with Russia) gets control.
- Russia invades and looses the battle of Stockholm.
- Sweden invades an besieges S:t Petersburg.

First land combat step, there is a possible siege battle. But if the war continues, there is no siege battle of S:t Petersburg unless the controlling MP moves the Swedish corps and re-siege.

---------------------------

Another siege related bug.

- France is at war with Prussia.
- France besieges Prussian minor Saxony.
- France builds a depot in the siege area.
- Prussia sends in a corps to relieve the garrison.

Instead of attacking the French siege force, the Prussian corps destroys the depot and both the French and the Prussian corps is in the same area without fighting. Moving a second Prussian corps into the area relieves the garrison.

----------------------------

Question
What's with all the 7-rolls that the AI makes even when there should be no bonuses involved?

This is not AI Sweden invading Russia, yes? A save of the land phase would be helpful for fixing the siege bug at St. Petersburg. I'm also seeing AI Russia weakness not setting fleets for interceptions.

In second, Prussia should relieve the siege even with the depot destruction. I'll check that.

Clarify what die rolls you are referring to. You're seeing AI getting all 7-rolls? If I know where to look, I can check that.

No, Sweden is Human controlled through Prussia. It's still the same game I am working with to find the bugs. Just backtracked a bit.

There is no good AI defense at that point. If they intercept when Sweden invades from Sveaborg, Russia will have to abandon their own invasion of Stockholm. What Russia can do, is to leave a substantial force in S:t Petersburg. However that does not solve the supply problem, the port can still be blocked. Putting a depot in Riga and defend that too would help a bit. However the invasion strategy will always be a gamble. Russia need to be lucky enough to win the first battle of Stockholm because loosing usually means supply problems and attrition.

But Russia should always do the following if they go for invasion.

1. Keep defended depots in both S:t Petersburg and Riga.
2. Intercept fleets only in the same area with the invasion fleet.
3. If Sweden has more than one fleet in one location, block them!

Ill try to recreate a save for you.
