Village TEM

Post by abbafan53 »

The TEM for a village hex is 0.65 in the game (not 0.7 as stated in the manual) and is the same as a suburb hex. This seems rather excessive to me, given the type of (wooden) buildings found in most Vietnamese villages. Is there a particular rationale for this figure?

Ah yes, probably a typing error, it should be 0.7 for a village.

Thank you. Just to clarify, the TEM for a village that appears in the manual (0.7) is correct and that which appears on the map (0.65) is incorrect?

I raised this issue because I have just played "Operation Starlite" (it didn't go well) and this scenario features a lot of village hexes. I found it very diffcut to drive the enemy out of them, but that was most likely just my poor tactics!

By the way, does anyone know where I can find the stats for the various types of fortification found in the the game (Improved Position, Trench, etc.) If they are in the manual, I can't find them.

Looks like I neglected to add that information to the manual, sorry about that, I will remedy that for a future update.

Operation Starlite is a challenge indeed! Many of the key villages are defended in depth, so takes some extra strength (operate as a battalion) and firepower (airstrikes and artillery) to get into them.

Thanks for the insight. :) Unfortunately, I attacked in a piecemeal fashion and held back from using artillery / air support for fear of causing civilian casualties. Result - Charlie kicked my b***!

 I have tried to address the village TEM issue by editing the Main.dat file. The map now shows the correct value (0.7), but I cannot tell if it has also had the desired effect on combat resolution.

If the map now shows the intended 0.70 Village TEM, combat results should indeed reflect that. (AFAIK. I am on vacation and don't currently have access to the source code.)

With that modification, you are using the -X NoEncryption option, right?

Thanks for the confirmation. I am not sure what you mean by "X NoEncryption option" - I just edited the file using Notepad, there was no encryption involved. (I did the same thing for CS: Middle East.)

:?: Is there something else I need to do?
