Should I be moving my air HQs?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Should I be moving my air HQs?

Post by MarkShot »

I know regular HQs exert some positive checks if in range, and also to hand out SUs they need to be in range.

Further ground HQS help boost depot capacity ... but do my AIR HQs serve any function from which I might benefit?

In WITW?

In WITE-2?

Thanks.

long delayed answer.

in both games air HQs do 2 things, basically they assign support squads to relevant airfields and influence the allocation (& repair etc) of planes and the extent an airfield can draw off extra supply in turn if it runs out of local stocks.

They have 2 leadership values that matter, admin and air war, the rest (to my knowledge are redundant, just there are a small number of air commanders who can control ground formations too).

The good thing is they do both roles up to 90 hexes from the target airbase, this can cross water. So basically they should be well to the rear

Loki,

Welcome back!

I literally went from present to about page 40 categorizing useful threads for game insights into WITW. I would say that in at least 70% of my bookmarked threads you made an appearance.

Further, I kind of feel that you played a major role in my finding out that WITW/WITE-2 are far more than chess with hexes.

I admit very selfishly. Knowing you are around to answer questions makes me feel a lot less intimidated by 500+ page of rules. Thank you.

Again, welcome back!

Not to derail or side track things, but WITW is really under-rated.

I learned a crap ton from these threads and personal experience over the last 2-3 weeks and am playing in at 3 player game (2 US vs. 1 Axis).

Running the Tactical and Strategic Air War manually is the only way to go, upgrading your planes, setting AD and Doctrines and a host of other items is a wonderful game within the game.

Yep, I am having a lot of fun with it.

Many grogs say, ("Crap, Planes!"). But for me, "Great, Planes!". :)
