Hi all,

Ahhh... athough it is really time for others to test as well I did it one more time...

Description:

I created brand new custom scenario for this testing.

There are only 3 islands present: Marcus Island, Wake Island and Midway. Marcus Island is IJN base while Midway is USN base. For this test Wake Island is made Japanese base and exact Tokyo replica (i.e. it contains all properties of Tokyo including "Manpower").

Weather is always clear.

FoW is OFF.

Two B-29's groups have their default leaders (50's/60's ratings) while their EXP is set to 70 and morale to 90.

The B-29's have to fly 14 HEXes from Midway to Wake Island.

The B-29's attack from 10000ft.

5 consecutive runs of scenario in day (i.e. daytime bombings):

Discussion:

Rather unified destruction but the acual "Manpower" destruction (from initial 110 value) was not registered although fires were started - apparently the 2x 48 B-29 bombers are not enough...

P.S.
The B-29's used here are 100% same (same leader, same EXP, same morale) as those who wrecked havoc on ships in port in similar scenario I posted before.

Discussion:

Again more destruction and fires than when 2x 48 or 4x 48 B-29's were used (as expected) but only twice there was actual damage to "Manpower" value.

I now think that there must be "dice roll" for actual damage because both times when there was damage to "Manpower" the attack was not the strongest (and not the biggest fire produced)...

Does this represent a signifigant increase or decrease in the destructive power of B-29 raids compared to 'out of the box' WitP?

I think significant damage - 1 raid and 10% is destroyed/damaged...

BTW, I just realized that although I on purpose targeted the "Manpower" the other objects were also heavily destroyed/damaged as well!

In almost every raid there was 5%, 10%, 20% damage to:

Heavy Industry
Resources
Oil

Therefore the attacks are _HIGHLY_ successful / _VERY_ effective for USA and _DEVASTATING_ for Japan!

Appreciate the time that you took for these tests, but I have to mention that all it shows is the following
1. Clear weather is good for bombing.

In fact, I would have been surprised that such a group of bombers wouldn't achieve those results in these conditions; they should devastate a square mile or more in that force. And considering the dense nature of the Japanese urban area 10% doesn't seem that far off; if anything, it would be light, considering the 'milk run' nature of the test, though the additional damage from the fires will probably end up doubling the damage, if the test were run out some more days following the strike.

Yes... the test was "the best case for the USA" (i.e. good weather and no opposition)... it's goal was to see the MAX amount of possible damage that can be achieved...

Hi Apollo,

Could run run the same test at 30,000 feet for comparison? Would be intersting to see how great a differnece there is.
