Hi - I haven't seen this before so I thought I'd post it here. I'm sure it has happened to some of you, but it's got to be pretty rare. While waiting for the next patch to restart my PBEM game, I'm playing the Allies against the AI. It's late December in Secario 15. IJN is running amok in the SRA as usual, but their aircover in the Phillipines is not yet fully established to project southward. So I decide to roll the dice and get in there with some capital ships, namely, POW and Repulse with about a half dozen destroyers to see if I can smash up some troop transports. POW & Repulse are making their way up the Makassar Strait when I suddenly see a couple of IJN TFs three hexes away. Intelligence shows some CAs and CLs, but I suspect there is a troop convoy in there too. They're heading right at me. Suspecting KB is somewhere up near the Home Islands or northern Phillipines, I let the RN TF proceed. Sure enough, next turn there is a surface engagement, but it is no troop convoy, it is KB! And not very well escorted at that (2 BBs Heiei and Haruna, a couple of CAs, and a surprisingly small destroyer screen). Well, there was one heck of a melee. I sink Heiei after repeated large caliber hits and Kaga has a magazine explosion after a salvo from Repulse hits her squarely and a torp hit. POW is mortally wounded by at least two torps plus heavy gunfire from the IJN BBs and sinks the next day. There are two rounds of combat at 9k and 2k yards before disengagement. Repule has hits too and limps away with significant but survivable damage. Next day as fleets separate, KB begins retreating in opposite direction but sends off massive airstrikes to sink Repulse (they do). Two of my DDs survive with heavy damage. A heart stopper to watch that engagement play out! Anybody else had KB in a surface engagement in PBEM or against AI?
