Orzel, Sven sorry I can't help ya , I am not from the same planet as the data they have chosen to use. Ballistics vary from place to place throught the universe due to the effect of blackholes. I have pretty much written SPWAW off as a small niche game designed for a small number of folks that share the same fantasy land. I recomend taking a look at SPWII or SPMBT . The situtation here is beyond hope so long as the folks doing the work remain the same. how can folks who have never fired a cannon or even ridden in a armored vechcile say anything about feel without every selfrespecting honest person falling on their butt layghing is beyond me ...color me gone.
Look at the excellant points on ballistics, and performance, and History, even game mechanics folks have been making and look at the total BS answers you have been getting... time to cut your losses .

I hate to admit it, but you are right. I still try to defend my all-time favourite game though.

Yeah, but it is becoming harder and harder.

Oh well, at least I can always throw WAPA out of Germany in MBT (Or reach the Rhine as the Soviets)

You got me into this Goblin...now I just can't walk away and ignore it.

The muzzle velocity of almost all of these guns ranged from 760m/s (meters per second) to 830m/s...with the vast majority of them coming in somewhere between 800-815m/s as an average. (so far only the PAK 35/36 and M35/36 were below the 775m/s threshold) To me that should mean most of their accuracy ratings should be fairly close to one another...and as everyone can plainly see they are not.

Better ammo might increase the range and result in better penetration values for some nationalities...but even that should not produce the varying difference in values that appear on the chart. To me they don't make a lot of sense...and although I am harping on the values of one weapon type it makes me wonder just how bad the problem might be in regard to the rest of the weapons in the game.

Hopefully this data chart will help serve as a visual aid to others reading these posts...so that they can better understand the points trying to be made here. To be honest...until I sat down and started digging into the numbers myself I finally realized that I had been overlooking how serious the problem might be.

Historical data must be the basis for the OoB's as much as humanly possible...and let "balance" be attained by players having to learn how to use weapons and units according to their strengths and weaknesses, rather than having the values altered to make the game "dumbed down" as it were.

Heh. I play MBT almost exclusively.

But it´s still sad to see WaW go to hell. It was the game that introduced me to the world of SP MODs on the internet.

I have deleted 8.0+, and have no intention of installing WaW again in the near future. The "Secret Society" behind the latest OOB upgrades has made me do as I did.

It´s a shame really, because there was still some potential left in WaW. Now it looks as if it is irretrievably gone.

It saddens me

Rune buddy, don't go sour grapes on us, 7.1 is still out there and H2H is a fine game as well, your fun to read and are a wealth of knowledge. Much of what you are discussing will make it to the 8.2 I'm sure.

Is there a secret to getting MBT to work on XP? I seem to remember trying it once, and couldn't get anything to work. Maybe it was WW2.

I run win 98, so I have no problem. Yet might consider asking on their Yahoo mailing list (where a lot of others have found help). Another common error is that some of the never graphicscards won´t show VGA graphics, which MBT runs in (or something like that, it has to do with the DOS graphics not showing up)

once you configue the sound, its *usually* foolproof.

But, go to the SP Camo site - they pretty much cover it in good enough detail...

Hi Vic. I'm curious where you found this policy and when it originated. Sticky in the AoW, and General if i recall correctly.

Do a 'search' on policy.

Ah, and that would be because I have not been there for months, nor intend to be there for months still. I loath that forum so much that I will not even venture there to see if such a policy exists, however, I am and was a bit mystified that finding a conduct policy would be as difficult to find, but, then again, it may be that it's the only forum with a crying need for it.

Hardly to hear some tell it.

Simple sarcasm is an editable offense in some eyes whoch is contrary to matrix policy. The AoW serves the purpose it was created for. It is a shunt that keeps the majority of OT crap out of the real forums for games.

I hang out there because ever since I left the community I decided to let the "Dead Poet's Society" or "fanboys" or the "Balance Brigades" have their way.

The track busting MGs and Gonzo ratings have brought me back for this cameo.

We can't just "walk away"....

if we do that then we have failed Matrix and the company DID GIVE us this game. The fact is rome was not built in a day. What is needed here is an inventory of what exactly the majority want as far as OOBs go and tailor them to meet that.

I walked away one and I assure you I regret the impacy of not giving historical data when possible a voice.

The only way we fail is if we walk.

harlekwin,

We have failed. They are leaving crap like that LMG in there, and saying that it is to get it 'the way it was'. Their words. You now have a LMG, that can move and shoot in the same turn, with as good or better stats than HMG's. How are we going to beat that kind of mentality?!?! I am just in shock. It is utterly unbelievable.

I will most likely not be playing 8.2 when it comes out. I will probably look at it, but that is all. I can play with my daughter's Barbies if I want to play fantasy games. My favorite wargame is being torn down, and there is not a damn thing I or anyone else can do about it.

Well most of this nonsense started with the H2H.

A Sturmtiger bombarding and a SU-152 cant. It is a fact that all gun in a tank can be artillery usage but I though it was agreed that only specialist SP artillery could plot but H2H made nearly all the german equipment do that because it was arguging on the fact about the elevation of the gun. I think they didnt serve in any army before, we can use any gun to bombard with some preparation.

LMG move and fire with such accuracy of a HMG... if LMG is so accurate and deadly after running 200 yards.. , the HMG will already be phased out by now.

I still remember Close Combat II mod whereby the removal of the rocket and alot of ppl was complaining because it min range is out of the screen. Some stick to the modified mode for accuracy but kids perfer to play fantasy and at the end of the game, they wonder why German lost the war.

Maybe all value should be kept as historical as possible. The changes required is only the amount of point located for each country at different year. Tiger is indeed a hard to kill target in the war but it is only in an experience hand.

It is also a fact that it take 26 T-34 to assualt a front defend by 4 Tigers, the result in which 22 were knocked out with only 1 Tiger damaged. But it only take one man with alot of guts armed an out dated ATR gun, crawed to 50 meters of a Tiger and take one shot into the view slit taking out the driver effectively immbolized the tiger. Such is what we called fortune of war.

And till todate, I still using this stupid name because after 2 years my account was taken by someone when this sever crashed and I am unable to take my name back which I dont have the password....

I don't think you can buy a strumtiger in H2H ? It was moved to the what if OOBs maybe you mean the SIG-33 ?

Anyway lets see whats going to happen with the 8.2. If they fix some of the RC/RFs that were raised and some prices you would have a really good version. They made some misstakes and hopefully they will correct them. They also change many thing for the better. I wish ( my opinion ) that they would have made oobs without trying to cater to AI games after all if your a player who enjoys AI game mostly and you modify the oobs then no big deal but is you are a PBEM player then its very important to have the same OOBs to know you are playing the same game. just my opinion I'm starting to not enjoy this forum much anymore and that s to bad, it use to be one of my favorite places to hang out and get poked fun at. Now how about a couple of you heard over to the AAR/DAR area and lets have some fun and duke it out. Lets get back to the fun

Is it possible to make battalion formations to buy? It would be a good idea because many people are usually playing at least battalion sized battles.

This was intentional on my part. Here, I'm KG Erwin the moderator. At Bernie's site, I'm just Gunny Erwin the gamer. Besides, even though some of my friends over there disagree with me, I found another way to promote the Depot.

Given my moderator status at Matrix, I can't give my general impressions on the status of 8.2 changes. Here, I'm just Gunny, so here's what I'm seeing: the team is doing a hell of a job in getting these OOBs fit for what will be the final official Matrix patch. One overriding concern is that the current mech.exe forces certain values in the game to run counter to what one would expect in an absolute historically valued database.

Sure you can. Further if you can't give your opinion at Matrix it is because of either an implicit or implied non-disclosure policy and voicing your opinion here is a violation. You are very good at saying "game engine", but if it is a mech.exe issue the "it just feels right" things should be applied across the board formulaicaly and if not it is just a smokescreen for fanboyhood.

This is why we have the FC5/RF4 LMGs. The limitations of the game forced this to be as it is, and still give historically accurate representation in gameplay. This is just one example of the across-the-board changes that were made. Another example is 4.5 rockets--these actually only had a range of 1100 yards, so they were adjusted for on-board rocket-armed boats. We also retained a long-ranged 4.5 rocket for off-board use. Furthermore, I requested that we quote sources for our changes in weapons data. These will be provided with the patch. What we've done isn't based on fantasy or pulled-out-of-a-hat data. This is based on hard research, and it has made me furious that my teammates' work has been denigrated and ridiculed sight unseen.

Let's work through a logic conundrum. Previous scrubs were done in the light of day and vetting changes and sources were openly posted BEFORE changes were made. For some reason the happy little OOB smythes now need us to fall for your smokescreen so the "geniuses" can work in 'peace'.

Hey "Gunny" all I want to know and more and more people are joining everyday in wondering is why the 37 mike mike has as many identities and values as Imelda Marcos had shoes when it is the same licensed Bofors gun?

Something tells me someone nailed it on the head when they said you are pumping up tech specs to reflect training and morale matters. If the Bofors is one and the Germans rock of course the German Bofors is 1.275 of the baseline.

Uh-uh and of course since we are now in candyland the German equipment will be toned down later in the war to reflect their diminishing skills?

Oh darn we never make it to THAT point do we?

Forgive me, but I gotta get this off my chest. The 8.2 OOB patch will be the best ever done, but some players' pet peeves will not be addressed. All I can say is, tough sh it. We're gonna give you our best effort, as a result of our research and the information we've gathered from the forums. This is a group effort--the entire community has played a part, and guys like Renaud have rendered invaluable assistance in doing their own independent research. I don't give a damn whether it "feels right" or not. All I want is for it to "be right" within the confines of the game engine.

You were there? You have been to boot camp and know what the various ARs, lessons learned sheets, and Unit histories say? Can you show me a source that says a manpack LMG is superior in any way to a tripod mounted one other than mobility?

You can find a book to say just about anything, yet another reason for open declaration of sources prior to the OOBs being "official".

Now, when 8.2 is released, I expect some whining, as this won't meet other players' preconceived notions of "what should be". Sorry, can't help you. Our job is to show "how it was", to the best of our ability. This is our mission.

Again you were there, been to boot camp or have ever given a lessons learned brief?

It seems to a lot of us we are seeing a Bizzaro world rendition of the TV show combat not a realistic simulation of the evolution of combined arms operations in WW2. "Missions" don't meet their goals all the time, and this is known as "failure". "It just feels right" is the dissenters battlecry for what MUST be the primary source in their eyes not any concrete one that would stand muster.

Such radical changes are being made that the assertion MUST be that every version of SPWAW prior to 8.0 was a conspiracy to purposely screw things up.

Care to run that assertion openly by David Heath or Paul Vebber?

This team is accused of being "Secretive Wizards and Gurus". Well, that's partially true. Some of the team members are not regular forum posters. They work in relative anonymity, but that doesn't take away from their value to SPWaW.

Yeah they have the time to come up with tack busting MGs and magic T-34s but not enough time to give briefs on changes or sources.....

"Okay"....

I can't say any of this at Matrix, but you guys know me, and I believe in what we are doing. Thanks for letting me rant & rave on this.
With best regards to all my friends here,
Glenn

Hey no problem I have copied and pasted this for future use. Please continue to thump your chest and justify the butchering of the OOBs and the morphing of the game into "what it really really really was" based on the observations of a bunch of people who weren't there. You have obviously proven over time the awesome reasoning behind the "Dead poet's society".

Well no you haven't but it is indicative of what happens when light is shed on a cesspool what happens to the vermin nearby.

They get pretty enraged then run for cover.

People are going to vote with their feet come 8.2 unless I miss my guess. This would not be horrible for matrix if they were voting with their feet for CL/CA, but the majority seem to be heading over to CAMO and their reasonable OOBs.

regards,
sven

Every version since 4.5 that came out, I have greeted positively.

4.5 -This is the greatest game ever!!!
5.0 -Internet- Awesome!
5.2, 5.3+?- Great!
6.1- Hmm, some changes that seem bad, but screw it, awesome anyways!!
7- Same as 6.1, but I love it!
7.1- More of the same. Changes, yes, but its great!
8.0- Hmm, they know about all the mistakes from before, and all the errors found by us during testing of MCSE, so this is gonna be the best ever!!! Then? WTF?!? This has to be an error!! They issued the wrong version or something!

Nope.

I want it established that I am not an OOB basher. People are sure to think I am. I have played and loved every version up until now. But I sure as hell am going to speak up now. I refuse to play with players that send me OOB's of their making with stats like this stuff in it, so I don't want this kind of thing the 'official' version that all players are stuck using.

Well Gobby to me a basher is someone who has no counterproposals and does not offer constructive criticism, and has no interest in the game other than as a theoretical exercise.

Nobody I know meets those definitions.

I have been here since SPWAW 1.0 and with the crowd since SP1.
