"MWIF is game about decisive moments and the winning side are the side who get those decisive moments in their favour."
Peter Skoglund

Partly by analyzing my favorite World in flames quote we know a campaing is full of many moments; important, lucky, strange, unluck, surprised , small, big and important moments. Great once like; Axis invasion on Gibraltar, Allied passport during Barbarossa or US attempted declaration of war against Japan etc and down to many small: US entry rolls, first German Krakow\Warsaw asssults,Weather rolls during May\Jun and Jul\Aug 40 and 41 etc.
One of my personal favorite moments, even when I’m on the reciving end, is surprised moments.

Below is one from an interesting game where the Allies have almost fought against the wind in the Pacific side from the beginning of the game. The Soviet Union has been pressured to intervene against Japan because of strong Japanese success against China. After initial access in Manchuria, the tide has turned when Germany began to build on the Polish border and the Soviet Union's forces have been sent away to deal with the new threat. After the German attack - Idealistic or not - the crack Sibeiran units have been fighting a withdrwal\delaying war with the Japanse before beeing railed west to stop the Germans but their plan is in trouble.

Can you see it?

Yes, one of the “worst” units in the game threatens to cut the russian units of one from the critical railway. And from the other side the Japanese 5th MEC threathens to cut supply from the North. It’s a classic pinching move.

But what can the USSR do about it?
• Blocking the TER from ZOC the railway?
• Attack the TER?
• Flee north towards Blagovyeshchensk?
• Block the MEC and count on supply from Blagovyeshchensk?

Or sent the TB-7 Lnd4 from the Valdivostock area, at max range, to ground strike the Pesking 2-3 Japanese TER but it's only 30% chance...

And "Tada!" a one is rolled there by ending the Japanse dreams.

Damn! I like this game!!!

Those were the questions we asked, but I decided it's easier to ground strike TER and walk away

EDIT: Note that Japanese fighter was one hex too far to protect TER.

Not sure if Emergency HQ Suppy is in effect, but another option would have been to continue to retreat normally, and when the time came, use Emergency supply to attack the blocking TERR.

WiF is designed to have a lot of die rolls and attempt to lessen "critical luck" as much as possible. Also the whole system was moved from d6 results to d10 results for the same purpose, some 20 years ago now. Rarely will you win Initiative, get a favorable weather roll, flip 2 enemy units, and then decisively win a low odds battle against those 2 units, all sequentially.

The infantry army could do the same as the TERR in a pinch, so flipping the TERR wouldn't completely get the Red Army out of the jam.

True, he blocked the 4-3 INF with 5-4 INF after the flipping of the TERR
