Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR

Post by AllenK »

Welcome to a new Global War AAR.

I am playing the Allies and Warspite1 the Axis.

Three house rules as below.

- USSR - Japan pact (Basically playing the normal rules but without markers so based upon Garrison ratios. No attack in 39 and needs 2:1 in 40 for Japan to DoW).

- Only strategic bombing allowed as a night mission (all other missions must be performed by day).

- HOUSE RULE FOR EN-ROUTE INTERCEPTION

Bombers can fly together only if they attack together same hex.

1) Attacker announces all bombers (and escorting fighters) going for strategic bombing. Attacker announces route for each bomber (or bomber squadron if several bombers fly together to same target) to the point they are safe from defending fighters or to target hex if that hex is inside intercept range.

2) Defending fighters can intercept if bombers fly inside their intercept range. Defender announces which fighters will intercept and which bombers are intercepted.

3) Attacker chooses factory inside fighters intercept range for intercepted bombers.

When intercepted, new fighters are not allowed to intercept to target hex. In reality, there would have been air to air combat and bomber would have continued to target behind fighter screen.

AA gun can fire if
a) Attacker announces target voluntarily (in step 1) or
b) Attacker chooses target where AA gun can fire even if there was other target inside intercept range without AA gun. (AA gun is not worthless, it can protect factories next impulse when fighters are used)

4) Attacker can intercept if they have fighters in range.

5) Air to air combat.

6) Bombing

Optional Rules

CW grabs most of the available Lend-Lease. China holds back the request for now.

USSR sets up mostly against Bessarabia. Cav is under the LND near Cernauti. MECH and LND under the ENG. 2 INF at Odessa. GARRS just outside Murmansk on the border and Leningrad.

Here is the Italian Set-Up.

In North Africa the Italian 10th Army is poised at the wire, while 5th Army guards Tripoli.

On the mainland, 1st and 4th Army are massed on the French border in the Alps.

In East Africa the few forces available are all over the shop - who knows what that is all about - but I'm sure Il Duce has it covered.....

CW is scattered as usual. Notable are the strong naval force at Gib. The three northern CV's start there with suitable BB and CA support. An additional BB and CA task force is also based there. Escort forces are at various strategic locations. The Queens start with Gort at Plymouth. 2 TRANS are with 2 MOT at Liverpool. The other TRANS is at Alex' with Wavell. The Asia CV's are both loaded with CVP's and start at Aden with the BB and 6-6 CA's.

The Japanese High Command give the order to 'go large' in Northern China, leaving screening forces in the centre and south.

The German scrap program is somewhat lighter - reflecting perhaps that the German armed forces have only recently been gearing up for war.....or that I don't know what I'm doing.....

There are no real surprises in the German set up - which is Polish-centric.

I've got the freeze problem again - I think there is a form stuck behind the main screen. Anyone remember how to get rid?

Thanks

Edit: Ignore. I've found it. However the German units picked may be different to the picture. I will post in a second.

Well that was an expensive mistake. I clicked on the green button after finishing the German set up so had to go back to auto save [:@] I very luckily had all the best German fighters and the two best Stukas.... not anymore. What a schmuck.

Ho hum....

Just for that - I'm now officially angry and I'm going to declare war on Poland.
