Desktop Shortcut Icon Question

The King or the Parliament? Choose your side and take command of the Cavaliers armies or the Roundheads and the Covenanters.

Desktop Shortcut Icon Question

Post by w_michael »

The Windows desktop shortcut icon has a blue and yellow quartered shield superimposed on the ECW graphic. How do I remove it?

The blue & yellow shield is from Windows, when an exe file is run with Local Admin privileges. Here are the steps to change that:

1. Right-click the desktop icon and select Properties from the context menu.
2. Select Open File Location from the window that pops up. Windows [file] Explorer will open in the ECW directory.
3. In the Windows file Explorer, Right-click the file ECW.exe and select Properties from the context menu.
4. Click the Compatibility tab.
5. Unclick the box "Run this program as an Administrator"
6. Click Apply and then OK
7. Right click ECW.exe again and select 'Send to >'... 'Desktop (create shortcut)'

When I do this on my Win-10 desktop I get a desktop icon without the Windows shield.

EDIT: Some older games do require Local Admin rights to run, but it's less common now. I was able to launch the game and start the tutorial w/o the Local Admin privileges.

Thanks. I haven't had this problem with any other game other than AGEOD.
