Why are CVs almost worthless????

Post by jzardos »

So surprised and very disappointed I have to even be posting this thread. Why the heck are CVs so worthless??? WTF. How could this get past beta? I'm doing simple attacks with exp CVs with upgrades against naval units (most with no upgrades) and doing nothing an the CVs air is taking damage? Do I have to ask what books people who were involved in this game they read about WW2 (specifically in the Pac)? Pick one decent book, I've read over 50, no will you see these types of results in history.

- exp CV attacks CL unit in weak port(CL no upgrades) no damage to CL CV loses 1-2 points
- exp CV attacks DD and no damage to DD, CV loses 1-2 points.

- more too

WTF. Once again why do I have to post this? how can this be so messed up? Please do some research around WW2 units and effectiveness before releases this garbage around CV type units.

Very upset[:@]. investment in CVs for Japan was a waste. thanks

Wild guess (since I was annoyed at this at first too);

but can you have forgotten to put their "mode" to "naval combat" (or what it is called, something like it atleast)?

Before launching the strike, you need to right click on the CV and, in one of the drop down line items (don't recall what it's called, "mode" something or other), select "naval/tactical." If you don't do that, the default is for the carrier to strike with fighters, which will not do any damage to non-carrier naval units.

As mentioned above, switching your Carrier mode to Naval/Tactical would be highly recommended prior to attacking naval or even land targets. This is also what the AI would do prior to any similar attacks.

I usually attack with one CV set to Naval/Tactical and one set to Fighters to provide Fighter escort cover, if needed. Usually, two airstrikes from the Naval/Tactical CV will generally sink one ship.

Boy am I glad that the starting post wasn't coming from me. I know the anger. And the shame, too.
[:D]

How to attach bombs and torpedos to your CV based planes:

Fighter (CAP): excellent to protect your vessel or task force against enemy air strikes. Sucks as described above when attacking naval or land targets
Naval / Tactical: attach explosives to your planes. Tora, tora, tora!
Mix: Neither fish nor flesh. For all those who can't decide at all (poor devils..).

Hint: the default setting is Fighter / Combat Air Patrol. To preserve your lovely Carriers until you really want to go to war.
Or let me put it another way: please don't enter a gunfight while your weapon is still in the safety lock mode. But if you do, please don't blame the developers nor beta testers. Thanks!

CV's if used correctly are one of the most devastating weapons in the game. They are strong against your opponents air & naval, ground units not so much.

Seems like another enraged customer who doesn't read the manual ;) Just switch the carriers to the naval mode and you're good to obliterate enemy's fleet.
Lest we forget.

I've had no issues with CVs used correctly.

Ok, yes I feel kind of stupid now. Sorry for my rant earlier. [:(] I had actually just seen this before I check back to the forum. The default is CAP which I guess makes sense.

He's a good man for admitting a mistake.

I guarantee he's way behind me in stupid posts and ahead in apologies.
