USS Constitution under sail Boston Harbor

Post by operating »

One of the highlights of summer in Boston is the sailing of the USS Constitution from it's berth at Charlestown Navy yard across Boston Harbor to Castle Island on which Fort Independence was built (a huge Starban granite fort), the largest of many forts surrounding Boston Harbor. Hundreds of thousands of spectators show up for this event complete with a trio of howitzers giving a 21 gun salute to the historic ship upon arriving and with the ship firing it's cannons in kind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKVNnGtc-nU One cannot help but feel proud of our nation on days like this. Hope you enjoyed the video, certainly there are many others, this one seemed like a good one for now.

For those not familiar with the USS Constitution here is a sea tale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g4xEMfOeR0

Would have really been neat if it was full sail and not towed. A full broadside would have been the icing on the cake. Good to see it's still around. [;)]

There is so many videos of the USS Constitution to pick from showing the ship under sail, maybe this one will suffice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDUarCEdkvc

Training of the crew likely is the reason why top gallants on down are not taking wind. Don't forget it's hard to stop a ship of this size once it get's going in harbor waters crowded with all sorts of water craft. Maybe if they were on the way to a lobster bake they'd pick up the pace a bit.[;)]
