Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Rain & Mud in Europe.

2 German Corps and 1 German Army (all str 8 at level 1) attack the French Army in Metz doing 1 damage, while a German Corps takes 1 damage back.

German diplomats are as prolific as their military as they butter up Prince Paul of Yugoslavia by 13%.


Allied Turn
Clear in England. Clear in Europe.

In the Spirit of Free Speach the French Government declines to Ban the Communist Party.
Stalin decides to show a little bit of a backbone and refuses the Ribbentrop's proposal to revise the treaty borders.
Stalin then shocks the west by declaring war on Finland, though claiming it is just a minor border dispute.

French high command continues slowly reinforcing units along the French/German border. The Army in Metz recieves a double serving.

French and English diplomats are sent out to counter German activity.
Churchill grumbles that England should not be playing verbal catchup, but should instead be investing in the armed forces.
Chamberlain, however, has the votes.

Parliment, at Neville Chamberlain prompting, also denies Churchill's proposal to seize the southern Irish ports.

Previous Axis Turn:

The German 1st Army (Str 8, lvl 1) again assaults the French 3rd Army (Str 7) in Metz. Both Armies take 1 damage.

Germany invests in another Major Power Diplo chit.



Allied Turn
Rain in England. Rain in Europe.

French high command decides to act on reports of mediocre morale amongst the German 1st Army (Str 7, lvl 1, Readiness 48%, Morale 61%) and launches the Saar offensive.
The French 4th (str 7), 5th (str 9) and 3rd (str 6) Armies counter attack the German 1st doing 5 damage, while each of the French Armies takes 1.
The Germans (str 2) retreat to the northeast, and the French VI Corps (Str 8) moves forward and occupies the Saar mines, if only temporarily.**
The French 3rd Army (str 5) then pulls out of Metz and is replaced by the fresher XI Corp (Str 8) via hex swap.

In the Atlantic HMS Jersey surprises U-35 in the stormy weather, with HMS Jersey taking 1 damage and the U-boat 2.
HMS Javelin then finds U-32 a little to the southwest of U-35 and forces the submarine to dive.

The UK again counters the German MP Diplo chit.

Mud in Europe.

The French VI Corps in Saar valley is destroyed by combined air and land attacks.*
French Fighters engage German escorts and exchange hits, while taking an extra hit from the German TAC bombers themselves.
A German Corps takes a point of damage in the fighting as well.
Germany recaptures the Saar mines, although extensive work will be needed to get them fully operational again (i.e. reduced to 0).
Another German Tactical bomber strikes the the French Corps in Metz doing a point of damage.
The French Army in Strasbourg is attacked by 2 German Corps, one taking 2 damage and the other 1. The French Army takes only 1 damage.

France continues with the reinforcing of her land units.

HMS Jersey (Str 9) finds U-47 and does 2 damage to the U-boat while not getting hit back.

French Fighters engage German Medium Bombers and German escort Fighters over Strasbourg. The French fighters take 2 hits in the engagement, while the German bombers take 1. The 4th Army in Strasbourg doesn't loose any strength.
2 German Tactical bombers then strike the Army in Strasbourg and do 2 damage, bringing it to a strength of 4. A German Army then moves in and takes 1 damage assaulting the city.
A German Corps tries its luck on Metz and damages itself 1 point.

The 2 known subs in the Atlantic flee from the combined destroyers.

Previous Axis Turn:
Mud in Europe.

U-32 (Str 7) is surprised by the French Destroyer Terrible (Str 9) west of Medeira, the sub takes 2 damage and the DD 1 in the encounter.
Better yet the sub's position is radio'd to the rest of the fleet.

The French 3rd Army (Str 9) in Metz is destroyed at the minimal cost of 1 damage to a German Army.
The French 5th Army (Str 8), in the hills southwest of Strasbourg, takes 5 damage and accounts far better of itself doing 1 damage to both a German Army and a Corps as well as scoring hits on both a Medium Bomber and a Tactical Bomber.

French Communists spread antiwar propoganda (-2% Morale).

* I think some hexes changed ownership after I hit End Turn, that I wasn't expecting. In the brief glimpse it looked like the French Corps between
Metz and Strasbourg suddenly got cut off. That doesn't seem right as France has just as much ZOC on those hexes behind the Corps as the Germans do.

I'm really wishing now that I hadn't advanced the Corps into the Saar and had been quicker on the ball
regarding moving the starting HQ down to the Maginot line. Also wishing I had the 50 MPP back France spent on an 'extra' Diplo chit.
