Really exciting this I feel. If they get it right they'd have done a huge achievement. Plus again innovative.

Old working title was Chain of Command.

Expect a review at AWNT when released.

now for my opinion for what it's worth,

OMG,

Code: Select all

https://steamcommunity.com/app/821680/

until you get to the bit that says RTS, so put me off straight away,

so epic scale, but maybe too large, and too much for most people, as it would be for me to handle, as from the first map shown, you get the worlds globe, so the game covers the world, which is good to know, but also quite off putting for me also,...

overall, maps and looks and feels is very good, but don't like the overall low end graphics used, but can also understand that without using a cray computer to run it, would be hard pressed to make it work at this sort of scale without something going to the low end side,

runs well for a demo, you can stop it, zoom to anywhere you like and really get down to a single solider if you wish, with support, and modders etc making more battles, and not just from the developers, it could cope or do anything from the maps, also the price, the amount of time to get it working correctly, as epic games tend to have epic problems etc etc, but again,...

RTS, so no it's not a war game as such, more of a play thing for those who like to run around a keyboard and screen like a mad man trying to do the job of 10 people all at once, those who can will love it, those like me who like a slower type of game, counters and hexes and turn based turns, won't.

so for me it's another way of dumbing down a war game for those who don't like real war games, so have no idea how it will go once released, as these type of things sell well, maybe good if the supports there and they get the game finished with some good reviews etc.

so different levels of zooms, maps rotate all in real time, so the engine is very good and makes the whole thing very fluid

but the amount of things going off in the games demo bench mark is overwhelming tbh

Code: Select all

https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791461812555/announcements/detail/1693798980346075400

speaks for itself on the grand epic scale of the game, ambitious to say the least, if they get it right and working, it will be the largest RTS ever built and could cover anything, date wise with ease, or time wise even, if it's added to the data base etc,

but the size and scope may also be it's downfall imo, as who has the time to play on this scale? in real time, yes you can pause it, but omg, the scale is breath taking to say the least

Image

as my saying goes, if you build it, i'll test it and play it, but this one if far outside my ability to even get my head around, it's like 10 WITE and W and some more, yes i'm sure the RTS battles will be smaller than this demo etc, but no way can you do the numbers mentioned unless the UI is on the world best list, so wish them all the best, and hope one day they make a war game with the same engine, but not another RTS.

Really not sure why they bother with low level 3D units. Prefer it if just icons like in Graviteam Tactics when zoomed out abit.

I'm sure Matrix was supposed to be involved with this one?

It seems strange to have the whole globe and yet represent individual vehicles. I like RTS games but I love wargames.

Hopefully, it won't be like Supreme Ruler combat. Such detail, but it always came down to RTS lasso your units and mashing them together. SR series even modeled high ground advantage, had tons of realistic units and stats, but even starting a game with no units, it just became a mess, for me anyway.

Thanks for the preview on this one!

no idea tbh, it really does move well for me, so the engine can really be something to hold out and say well done to, but the amount of units which can be on the map and moved to me makes most war games look very small, kind of like a control all of a given size of army, divisions, squad type game as depending on what level of zoom you go down to, you not only see less, but can move less it seems, but may not end up like this, so that i'm not sure, but with the low end look and feel, like the buildings and ground and units, but just a epic scale of everything, some will love it, others will pass.

i'll just sit on the fence and wait until they bring on out something i like and can live with and can play, which isn't a RTS[:(]

Zak this will run at x1 pace which is very sedate!

It will have to have very good Tac AI and Great friendly AI so your units can look after themselves or be managed well by AI commanders as you'll never be able to keep track of everything.

uninstalled, as yes can be x1 to x32, but in the end it's a RTS, so not something i'd care to play, while looks aren't everything either, it's to basic and too large for me,

if it goes and has a none rts mode, better looks and models for units and cities, makes smaller battles, then for me it's more for me, not saying it won't sell well either, as RTS and FPS and other types sell by the bucket loads, just i'm not interested in them, is all im saying, but thanks for the post and share all the same, as others have already mentioned it's been out there for quite a while already in one format or another.

Conceptually, I like this. As far as wargames go, there's absolutely a niche to fill here I think. Will most certainly keep an eye on this.

had a few comversations and replies from the developers,
@zakblood
Thanks for taking the time to try out the MilOps: Benchmark

We understand your problems with many RTS games all too well. When we use the term in relation to MilOps we mean it the literal “Real-time Strategy”, not RTS the game genre (like StarCraft).
Our blogs reflect our own frustration with non-realistic strategy games.
We like to use the term “Realtime Operational Wargame” now because it does a better job describing the concept.

The game, which is still in development, is very much a serious wargame with emphasis on realism and simulation. To pull that off for 50K troops, the GPU is doing all the heavy lifting and thus the graphics are intentionally stylized.
That said, visuals and assets will improve before release.

To make a game where the player controls that many units feasible, new UI concepts needed to be developed. None of those are featured in the Benchmark by the way.
The unique AI is also very important to make MilOps possible.

If you are interested, you may want to read our blog entries on the website.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you would actually like what we have in mind.

Seems very promising (I hope recommended specs grow no more as they are on the limit). Wargaming operation barbarossa or parts of it with such an engine would be great.
