Mine were some heavy cruisers(Japanese) that reach almost 90's after several combats, some destroyers too. And sometimes those ships that we don't give much value but since are always in thick of it rack up experience.

The evolution of ship crew experience is one of the things that hit the sweet spot in the game, very well done, does not seem too slow neither too fast.

I'd actually disagree, the game seems to build EXP on ships for the wrong reason.

A 90 EXP ship should have been through serious protracted combat, dealt with damage and the like. I've had 90 EXP ships from seal clubbing underescorted convoys.

Sure, it's technically combat, but meh.

In all it's a minor gripe in an otherwise well-rounded game. I've more beef with the EXP on ground units and leader stats.

Well it is combat, but yes i agree with that partial critique, but i refrain to attack AI unescorted convoys.

Thanks for the link to my thread GetAssista.

Marblehead has had one or two more scrapes since raiding Oosthaven and now has 94 night experience.

For a very long time, I have tried to find a record of the ships which earned the "E" awards in WW2, which the USN has been awarding since at least the thirties.
IMHO, those crews might be given elevated experience via the editor?

I think the game gives more rapid experience gains to ships with good Captains - i.e. they still need to be in combat or deal with damage but they gain a little more than ships with less capable Captains. I seem to recall Leadership being the most important trait for this but I can't find the post that discussed this many, many years ago.

Admiral Lord sprior told us all about Bugis Street when he was posting to Cap Mandrakes AAR.
Unfortunately, current references say it has be repurposed as a shopping mall!

TBH I rarely look at crew experience. For that matter I rarely look at a ships' CO, except for those that are most important. Even if I looked I'd not change many as I won't spend precious PP's for leaders on ships that will have very little impact.

The idea that the abilities of as many as 2000 men specializing in 100 different areas of expertise can be summarized in one number is pretty specious.

If real combat had relevance in the game then many of the British/Commonwealth ships had much much more real experience in multiple fields of real combat than ANY Japanese ship, which, prior to Dec 7th, consisted almost entirely of lobbing a few shells into random landmarks in defenseless Chinese cities.

Sometimes training can teach more than real action, because real action is many times a limited experience in reach and time to incorporate much. That was one of advantages for allied forces their teaching was superior because in case of air forces the pilots had a sizable experience before being committed to teaching but not combat until dying like Axis.
In a sense most allied pilots in the game should retire after 50 or 75 missions.
