Germany rails one INF from La Spezia to Smolensk.

Land movement:

Germany:
Most units move on the East Front.
Vologda is captured.
Finish forces close in on Leningrad.

Units moving on other fronts are as follows;

- PARA (Alexandria) -> 81,59

Land attacks
1) Moscow - ENG are used to make the odds 36:4 before ground support. FTR3 adds 4 points to the attack making the odds 40:4. Will USSR fly defensive ground support? Germany has one FTR2 on standby.
2) Bryansk - odds 56:5 before ground support. Will USSR fly defensive ground support?

3: Hex 82,60 in Egypt odds - 18:8 before ground support. Will CW include notional for 1 more in defence?
Germany has the possiblity to use 10 of gound support and 14 points of shore bombardment. Max 42 vs 9 +2 or 42 vs 8 +1.
CW also has the possiblity to use defensive HQ support. Allies can choose Blitz or Assault.

USSR send a brave Ldn2 to support the defenders. Germany sends a FTR2 to intercept.

The brave Lnd2 survies buth don't get through the German fighter coverage.

The attacks are mostly automatic. The defensive HQ support failed in Egypt (5 rolled). Allies has the choice of table in Egypt and chooses assault.

Some Quick,random Italian thoughts on the game so far:

Western and Eastern Europe
Right now the Axis are in the front seat. USSR are swaying under pressure and has not yet managed to pull home all the forces that were put in to save China in the war and the Persian campaign still holds many USSR armies out of the main front. The intervention of CW has stabilized the artic war but the flow of allied war material will be more difficult when the important rail junktion to the Artic regions was lost. The fall of the capital after the big Germany offensive hurts, but the key cities in the south are still safe and many factories has railed out in time.
In the air and at land the Germans are victorious and the remaining defenders has to pullback to safer ground waiting for more reinforcements. Bad weather and short turns maybe even a successful passing are surely in Stalin's dreams.

Although the east campaign has gain momentum after the terrible may\jun weather a thorn in the Axis side are that:
- France and Commonwealth has managed to prevent an attack against Spain and the rock is safe.
- A very successful strategic bombing campaign has from time to time has also hurt the German production.
- The allies still have a smal allied foothold on the mainland, this must hurt the German Generals pride.
- The many axis subs has been a failour so far and the big Commonwealth navy has keept the naval raiders in port.
- The arrival of the Commonwealth MAR has caused alarmbells to ring, scrambeling German defenders to the beaches and key positions.
- The Commonwealth has suffer few lossess and the navy, land and airforce are in good shape, capable of hurting the axis.

The Med and the Horn of Africa
Italians rules the sea with a impressive NAV force and the Commonwealth are keeping the noose out of trouble. The decision has saved the Commonwealth naval battle wagons but at a very big cost. Almost all allied holdings in the Med have been lost. Egypt is hanging on a thread and the loss of the important transport ships might be the tipping point.
Around the horn of Artica a phony war has broken out. After the quick attacks by Italians TER that conquerd the neighbors and Commonwealth has not yet have the transport capacity to go after the Italian teriritoy and the Italians seem content on what they have taken.

Although campaign has be successful with a small force the lack of air units and special troops in the East might be a big price to pay for the gains. The Italians comanders are still worroed over that:
- The rock is safe and the naval battle wagons might return better supported.
- Egypt is still not conqured and time is slowly running out. The Western allies are gaining strength.
- The arrival of the Commonwealth MAR has caused alarmbells to ring, scrambeling Italian defenders to the beaches and key positions, but they are not yet in position.
- French Somali land is still in allied hands.
- Vichy france territories are not in axis hands

Let's say USSR would not have attacked Japan, instead keep most of their units in west. Would Axis have attacked Spain or USSR?

I saw German doing a low odds attack in France, meaning they are going for Spain. Was is good defense of USSR railing units to east or both that changed your plans?

Grand German plan is almost always a Barbarossa. The dream of quickly dispatching France, running into Spain and throwing the British of the Rock and returning in time to Barbarossa is almost often just a dream.
Any plan to attack Spain was discourage by the line of Allied defenders holding the way to the mountains. The number of USSR units Persia and the big number of units in the East building up to fight the Japanese just confirmed it was the right decision to attack USSR. Railing units home and saving factories at the same time is difficult.

It's almost always a bad decision for the USSR to go fight Japan unless it's 1941 and the Germans are already enmeshed in Spain or the UK. The game is won or lost on the Eastern Front, where in 1941 every Soviet land unit counts, and not in China. China can fall and Japan will be big and strong, but the Allies still have a hope, because in 1944-1945 the US is still big enough to smack Japan around. (*) If the USSR crumples, so do the Allied chances of victory.


(*) At a WiFCon many years ago, after my game had ended I took over Japan for half a day. That Japan had run riot, and was on the verge of conquering Lan-Chow to finish China off, had invaded India (I myself seized Calcutta) and had conquered Soviet territory from Chita on east.

All the same, during the two turns we managed to play, the US systematically lined up invasions of first the Marshall Islands and then Truk with such overwhelming force that there was nothing I could do to stop it. (It didn't help, of course, that so many Japanese land and air units were tied down defending all their vast conquests, and the Japanese fleet was split up so part of it could support the Indian campaign.)

If that game had managed to go on any longer, I daresay the situation would have got quite bad for Japan in the Pacific, although I'm sure I would have also conquered Lan-Chow, and the Axis would still have won the game.

USSR prepares to attack near D-town and Odessa.

Units retreat elsewhere, but 2 units moves out of the city of Pskov to SW and some units moves west near D-town.

Attack near Odessa is 5:3 (GAR attacking Romanian MIL)

Attack near D-town is 50:13 +2 Blitz. USSR uses HQ support. Germany can use artillery, will they?
