My first game, FEB 42, off Baker Island. Being a novice I commit all 3 of my CVs to counter IJN invasion force, covered by 4 CVs. We sink 3, maul the 4th. I cringe and twitch but my CVs survive, with one badly damaged. My air wings are gutted and it was 4 months before I could sail again.

I understood how Nimitz and his staff had to have felt about Midway.

with WitPAE? Never! Gut wrenching, every turn!

But I can't stop.

That's what fishing is for

Exactly and supposedly they have salmon out here in the West that'll put those puny New England trout to shame (though I used to like catching them).

Spence, you should have tried some of the areas around the Great Lakes, they supposedly have some good salmon runs. IIRC Pulaski, NY is one of them. Stayed there once on a sled backpack trip years back. You were in Vermont right? Not that far away.

Against the AI? Well I assume. I'd not try that in a PBEM. The game has the Japanese CV's under strength, something a player will remedy in a hurry. At least I do.

WitPAE just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when doing a turn at work on my umpteen restart (slow going at the moment, so spare time).

I'm working in an open office with about 20 people around me, but I have a place with the back to the wall, so no one can watch my screen - seniority has its privileges.

I cannot mute the sound of my machine since I need it for notification purposes for incoming comms, but being the smart person that I am, I have set the volume of the sound options in WitP to zero, so the whistling bombs and explosions etc. during turn resolution won't give me away.

However, I did not reckon with Orphan Ann being totally unconcerned about the sound settings and announcing for all to hear the news about the fall of Wake...

Yeah, you know that warm fuzzy feeling of embarrassment?

Dammit, I have completely forgotten about that b*tch!

Same thing has already happened many years ago, some people never learn...

In my last PBEM a couple years ago:

Watching the turn replay and seeing the glorious broadside of Saratoga line up in my I-boat periscope. I draw in a breath and hold it. A 200-foot column of greasy black water shoots up the side of the ship from a torpedo impact! I exhale loudly "BANZAI!!!" The scrolling text mentions 'Fuel Storage Explosion'. I jump out of my chair and hop around the room fist pumping.

It is always Saratoga who gets it from subs, always So many times happened already in several recent AARs

Big target.
Sara and Lex were more than 100 feet longer than the Enterprise class, and were said to have a large turning radius.
