They can also train after converting to Kamikaze.

Once a squadron is converted to Kamikaze, it may only conduct three Mission types – Kamikaze, Training, and Stand Down.

The Kamikaze Mission is a variant of the Naval Attack Mission.

Training is not to imply that these pilots are training by crashing their aircraft into ships, but that they are trying to learn better flight techniques.

I recall flying CAP with fighter kamikaze units too. I had hoped to ram at a very high percentage, but it didn't work out that way.

That is from the manual. Was flying CAP from one of your AARs? I seem to remember the CAP. Post a pic of a Kamikaze unit if you can.

Well, technically... being stood down is Training at 0%.

This exists most likely because of coding constraints - without making it complicated.

Edit - also, while training... they aren't flying actual missions and attempting to sink stuff.

Good info. Kamikazes liked to come in behind returning Allied planes, so as to blend in with them on Allied radar.

Part of the learning process.
