Keeping the fires going at Harbin. He's now got zeros on night CAP at Kirin. Like that.

Some attention is now being paid to the bombardments happening along the Malayan coastline. Subs appear at Mersing, which the RN destroyers find and hit, and the big ladies hit the base again. I'll curtail action here and concentrate on Johore and Singers to see what he has in store there. There are ships now occupying the Kuantan hex, and rollover shows BBs and another TF that looks like fast transport.

Still no strikes on the unloading TFs at Batu Palat. Part of me wonders if he is encouraging this in order to trap these units, but then I think, with what? He's had seven divisions on Malaya for a while, and with three in Singers, one almost completely dispersed and destroyed, one split and one of the regiments crushed. another hunkered down in Johore and one near Taiping. He'd have to bring in 3-4 more, essentially all of the free IJA troops, to really stop what we are about to have here. And more is on the way ...

It's the 1946 annual German naval review.

Exactly, you cannot see those revolutionary type XXI boats in the picture because they were the first submarines designed to operate primarily submerged, rather than spending most of their time as surface ships that could submerge for brief periods as a means to escape detection or to attack. They were able to stay submerged for 6 days. Their sophisticated sensors permitted to fire "area searching torpedoes" from a depth of 20 meters without periscope observation of the target with a very high hit probability. After the war, several navies obtained XXIs and the USN, RN and Soviet navy introduced new submarine designs based on them.
