combining soviet units...Manual says I can combine rifle brigades into divisions in June 1941. I am in October 1941..I put 3 soviet rifle brigades in the same hex and make sure all are in same headquarters...but when I hit "b" hotkey to
combine, nothing happens. What am I missing? Thanks

Help in this game is like claiming to sleep with a super model. Screenshots/Photos or it did not happen. :P

Within one of the unit screens, click on the button left of "Unit Organization of _______" and you will get a screen like the one below. The column to the right of the Status will tell you what needs to be done before combine. IN the example here, the 26th Recon Rgt is in a different HQ and base, so you must change the HQ and move the units together to combine.

If you want more help, post the screenshot of that window for the units you want to combine.

I think he's playing War in the East -- wrong forum. I haven't played WITE for about 4 years, but I think it costs a few points to form a division. The other problem is that a few of the Soviet brigades are special types that can't be used to form a division. Actually I thought you couldn't form divisions until 1942 but I admit I'm really hazy on those details.

The brigades must be part of the same division, in the same hex, and in the same mode, as Infinitemonkey observes. Independent units that are part of a larger division will be marked by an asterik on the unit screen, if you playing with the latest patch. On the unit screen, in the lower left hand corner, will be a clickable arrow to "show all units of..." for any independent unit that is part of a larger organization. You can use this screen to examine all the unit that can be combined into a larger unit and issue each unit orders, such as to move to a common location in which to combine. How to access the screen is depicted below, assuming you have the latest game patch. Prior to the latest patch this sreen was not available, and one had to manually hunt the individual division components. (Apbarog, if you read this, this image is not from our game... it is from random save file against the AI... )

I don't play Allies, so I answered the generic combine question. The situation exists in Scenario 1 though:




In this case, the issue is that some components of the 355th Rifle Div are not on map yet.

Unless the Soviets are active you can't move them until the end of July beginning of August 45....GP

This has been changed in some patch. If I recall, you can combine them from January 1942 and only 2 brigades are needed to form rifle division. For tank corps you need 3 tank brigades(April 42).
