Atlantic Fleet

Has anyone else played this game? I really like it a lot, especially in their "Battle of the Atlantic" campaign mode. Highly recommend it!

Don't care for the fact that a ship calls in an aircraft it can't shoot. Other than that, I haven't played for awhile.
Watched a documentary on beavers. Best dam documentary I've ever seen.

I agree, there are aspects to it that are frustrating. Overall I do like the concept, though, sort of like Panzer General meet real time naval warfare.

The most frustrating thing for me is the lack of a save game feature in the middle of missions. But I've had a lot of fun so far.

Great game... Yeah it has some small issues but I hope they make a second one.

I think you would also like "Cold Waters" by the same team, just a bit more in-depth. Its a "Red Storm Raising" remake. You can also find mods for it over at SubSim. Just hoping it gose on sale some day!

I've noticed, playing the game for a little while now, that almost every mission can be completed successfully using submarines, including using submarines to kill other subs. So I'm thinking another drawback is that subs are over powered in the game. I even find it almost impossible to sink them with corvettes or destroyers because you have to close range to launch depth charges and 9/10 times by the time you close range, they can launch a volley of torpedoes at you and sink your escort. The other problem is that almost all missions involving subs start your entire fleet within torpedo range of the subs, even if you include capital ships and aircraft carriers in the mission. Not very realistic.

But still having some fun with it.

Perhaps, nevertheless, the modern nuclear deterrent has for centerpiece the terror of the seas: the submarine.

Would I would like to see, with some chrome and fixes, would be what they did with "Silent Hunter II" and "Destroyer Command" back in 2002!

In a nutshell, if you had "Destroyer Command" you could play against someone who had "Silent Hunter II" in multiplayer, they were both from SSI. I tried it with a friend back then and although it had some bugs, it worked!

Atlantic Fleet vs Cold Waters (with same era subs) would be neat on MP! Who knows, they might come up with that in the future.

Its a decent game but spoiled by the dominance of submarines over all other units (except air strikes).

The only reliable way to kill subs are:
1) use air strikes, get good at them and every air strike becomes a certain kill
2) use destroyers with many torpedo tubes, because torpedo spreads are likely to kill subs at periscope depth

The cheap cost of submarines makes them very common, plus the low value in sinking a sub means that battleships and carriers are unaffordable.
