Some Observations post the New Beta Patch .908e

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Some Observations post the New Beta Patch .908e

Post by anthonykevinluke »

Greetings All,

Thanks for the feedback on my earlier questions. I am about 15 days into a 1944 Campaign as the Axis (not the Jet one). Unless you changed something in the AI or scripting (? ...) I gave up playing the 43 Campaign as the Axis because I always won in about Feb 44; the AI tendency to commit suicide with un-escorted deep raids in Aug/Sep/Oct basically killed of the Allied 4E bomber fleet and the point score was just too low too keep the game going.

Some Observations on the current 1944 Game:
. It runs much better in Win 10 now and has actually become playable again - excellent effort and thanks
. I have put 25 factories on FW190D and TA152H research (equivalent parts and engines of course) and will let you know if it advances.
. I notice that the B24's often bomb from 28,000 ft!!! with astounding accuracy (of course they are then out of range from the German Flak mainstay, the 88mm Flak). Is this WAD?
. Night fighting seems less effective than ever. I have repeatedly placed 250 + night-fighters over the target (at the streams height) and have had at best 6 engagements ....... It does not seem worth the effort to launch the planes. Any thoughts?
. Also, still on night fighting, only the first two contacts (orange squares) reveal a height and can be located when 'moused over'. Is this WAD? I cannot intercept any of the other contacts ....
. Lastly, it is still damn near impossible to target enemy ftrs when they are with bombers. Even with 'bounce ftr' setting and greater height they usually attack the bombers rather than the Ftrs. This of course negates the ability to 'peel' the escorting ftrs away by making them drop tanks etc.

Anyway great to be able to play it again and any comments on my questions or thoughts/views above are always welcomed.

Regards,

AKL

One other issue to add:

. City/Factory Flak defences do not always fire even when within range/altitude. Have had several episodes when attacking 4E bombers were not engaged by a mix on 105mm AA, 88mm 41, and 88mm flak??? Ran the attack up to five time and flak still did not fire. No idea why, they just seem to go to sleep ..............

Cheers,

AKL
