In my upcoming Star Wars mod I have 51 races with 80% of them not needing Capital Ships etc...... is there a quick way to change the config files so that I can flag a specific race not to build capital ships, frigates, etc?

I am thinking one way to slow things do is to reduce the intelligence level of the smaller races so research is slower....and when they do research have their tech focus being on medicine and recreation first before weapons,etc.

Looking at the manual another option I could look at is reducing the aggression level of the smaller races which effects their level of military ship building.

You need to change the policy setting for the race involved.

For example: This is for the boskara

MilitaryConstructionLevel ;1
ConstructionMilitaryCapitalShip ;7 <( This is the one you're looking for, setting this to 0 means there will be 0% capital ships in the fleet)
ConstructionMilitaryCarrier ;8 <( However you probably want to change this one too, carriers are considered capital ships too by most standards)
ConstructionMilitaryCruiser ;15
ConstructionMilitaryDestroyer ;20
ConstructionMilitaryEscort ;18
ConstructionMilitaryFrigate ;24
ConstructionMilitaryTroopTransport ;8

If you add up 7 + 8 + 15 + 20 + 18 +24 + 8 = 100%

You probably should have posted this question in the design and modding sub forum...just saying...since you even have a mod going there...haha

You probably want something like this

ConstructionMilitaryCapitalShip ;0
ConstructionMilitaryCarrier ;0
ConstructionMilitaryCruiser ;0
ConstructionMilitaryDestroyer ;0
ConstructionMilitaryEscort ;95
ConstructionMilitaryFrigate ;0
ConstructionMilitaryTroopTransport ;5

This will give you 95% escorts, and 5% troop transports. So that's the lowest class ships and nothing heavier except for the odd troop transport...or just disable those too and give it 100% escorts haha

Just remember that "capital ships", "Escorts", etc only refer to their role, not their size. The AI empires will still build as big as they can.

True dat, it's dependent on the designtemplates for each race if I am not mistaken. However I am pretty sure the standard designs have less components assigned to them based on the role they are designed for.

I just checked the boskara Escort vs Frigate and the difference is about half the assigned weapons and armor components. So in theory, the escort should be about 50% the size of the frigate, I'm sure it is closer to 60-70% because of the use of other standard components such as support/engines.

That's correct. And remember, with the Bacon mod you can change the templates for any race mid-game and then with a single command "!loadshiptemplates" the AI will start using the new ones.
