RHS II scen 129 GP and me

Post by larryfulkerson »

GP wants to start a PBEM of a RHS scenario he's calling 129 with him as the Allies and me as the Japs. As you may
already know GP is above my skill class currently so I'm using this post as a "request for comments" for the things
I need to know and watch for playing GP and or what might be the best advice you can give a nearly new guy about the
game.
Interviewer: "What is your greatest weakness?"
Elderly Gentleman: "My honesty."
Interviewer: "Well I hardly think that could be a weakness."

You guys just play the game. RHS II still needs testing and input from human players.

The RHS mod is quite a change from stock which is my experience lately. For one thing there's quite a few new ship
repair yards. I've done a cut and paste, and cut it down so it would fit here, of the ship yards and their sizes
and there's quite a few of them in all the right places. I still think I need one at Kwajaliene.

I've found a manpower center which is right now 0(0) and I tried to boost it to one and there
was an error message that no changes were allowed or something like that so I'm wondering
what the point was of putting a manpower center there with no production and no changes.

I've noticed that most of the Japanese training squadrons start the game
with remarkably low morale. I'm standing down those bad boys until they
reach at least 60%. I have no idea what caused the low morale but I'm
hoping it will improve quickly. I'm still going through the first turn
set up procedure and have spent a whole day yesterday on it and it looks
like I may have everything done after another full day today.

I found out that you can use the city screen to find those garrisons that have an excess of
garrison and therefore troops that can move to other needed places. I'm going to see if I
can't heat up the China theater a bit and get something going. RHS II has a lot more RES
centers in China and I need most of them. The economy has been revamped and it's more
important than ever to get the resources flowing to the home islands from the get go. On
the other hand the facilities in the home islands have been taylored and tuned for
production values. The RES centers usually have a small LI facility there in the same
hex. That's pretty cool actually.

I've turned on the auto-convoy system to full-blast by turning on all the cities I can
reach by boat. I'm obligated therefore to stuff Osaka with all the AK's it can hold to
service all the routes. I'm hoping to get the auto-convoy system to do most of the
logistical work. The problem with the auto-convoy system is that sometimes it routes
TF's past enemy installations and other dangerous situations.

I've been told that RHS II has what are called "ghost subs" that will draw fire and when
hit they disappear instead of sink. Like a ghost radar return almost. I'm going to try
it out near Pearl. I've already deployed the midget subs at Pearl but I'm expecting
most of them to founder on the protective nets around the harbor.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the training squadrons by deciding which of them can
be switched to combat instead of training. It's going to take a while because there's
a lot of training going on. Two thirds of the squadrons are in training right now.

The RHS II download package comes with an extensive set of documents for you to peruse.
The documents explain the SOP that applies to just about everything. I've spent a lot
of time perusing those documents and they contain valuable advice and it's well worth
the time spent in them.

A lot of you guys might want to download the RHS II package just for the documentation.

RHS II has seasonal art for the game. Here's how and when to change the files for the seasonal art.

Wouldn't you be demoralised flying Willow or Potez?

Tho I have to admit that I consider flying biplanes beneath me, they were
probably the best aircraft the Japs had available for relative new guys.
I can see using the Willow on primary flight training but I'm thinking
that for advanced training a Claude might be better. Either that or
a Nate. There was one squadron flying the Soviet I-16 but I disbanded
it real quick. I'm not building any of those and there's only a few left.

I'm thinking that RHS II has a lot more training squadrons than stock. I'm
seeing about two thirds of all the squadrons in training now and it's still
the first turn. I haven't struck Pearl yet. Which reminds me. Should
I go for Manila instead of Pearl? Brian did that in one of our games
and sank a lot of my operational subs.

Some of the old stock locations have new names. Babeldoab is now Karor or some $hit. I'm going to have to learn a
lot of new names for locations. I think they are the name of the place during that time period instead of just having
any label on a base. I really appreciate the hard work that went into learning the "real" name of places on the map.

And there are separate *.dat files for the seasonal art panels. It's coordinated.

I was going through all the "factory set" TF's and lots of them have troops onboard and are headed for their
targets already as per normal but the Jaluit based TF 15 didn't have it's troops loaded yet. I'm loading them
now. They are targeted at Makin. I need to get there before he does to avoid a fight. Although he may already
have some people there. I need to take a look at that. That means I'll need a recon asset down here.

I moved a recon asset from Kwajalien to Jaluit and it takes all the fuel the little bugger has just to get there
but after 5 minutes taking pictures he's done his job and can leave. I don't know why I bothered to get some
recon asset down there because the Jap troops will probably have landed there before I get any operational intel.

I just now found out that Amami Oshima has an LI industry larger than the RES center there. That probably
means that I'm going to have to ship in some RES periodicly just to keep the LI going. And this base isn't
the only one I'll bet. There's probably a dozen places like this that will need a suplemental RES run.

EDIT: The suplamental RES doesn't HAVE to come from Tokyo, better would be Kagoshima, it's closer.

I started looking through the industry list highlighting just LI and RES and found those pairs of bases where
the RES is smaller than the LI and therefore will need some extra RES periodically and I was expecting maybe a
dozen such places but I've found 5 of them before I've exhausted the letter C. There's a bunch of them then.
