(REMATCH) AAR - Fall Weiss II - BPINisBACK vs crispy131313

Post by BPINisBACK »

Happily we have a rematch with Crispy's MOD (8.4 version).

We will try to post from time to time but maybe with less frecuency than before.

We repeat sides: Crispy is Allied, me Axis.

Let's see how the new version works (both from MOD and from Vanilla changes).

I will try to win the game or just surviving more than my last game (end of 1945). Let's see...

At the beginning my first turn over Poland was much better than my first one in the previous game.

Look how beautiful is the look in 8.4 version.

Good luck Crispy and greetings for everyone!

Having made changes to boost the Axis since our last match, it would not feel right to ride those changes to victory over my opponent. So here we are again, familiar foes ready to go to war! The last match BPINisBack opted for No Vichy, Sealion & Late Barbarossa. Will he try it again? What new strategies is my opponent cooking? Stay tuned to find out!

September 1939

Aside from the expected invasion of Poland, reports arrived in London that German economic aid has been earmarked for Franco's Spain. In light of this, the British considered a very bold decision, and have opted to evoke the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance. As a result, Franco has aligned defensively with Germany and the nation's war readiness has increased dramatically after Salazar permitted UK troops to arrive in Lisbon. Now that the British have a foothold in the Iberian Peninsula, Germany will have to consider under what what circumstances Spain may join the Axis camp if they continue in their attempt to persuade Franco, or could this be the beginning of a strategic disaster on the part of the Allies?

Not much to say.

Axis has follow the same decision as in the first game, i think. That is:

1) To support Franco in Spain.
2) To make trade with Switzerland.
3) Not support Greece.
4) Italy sells ships to Sweden and Thailand.
5) Italy won't pay for a better air fleet.
6) Germany won't have Tirzip but will have two more subs.

I think these all are the events i had to decided.

I think that i finished Poland before than in my first game which allow me to be ready sooner for the West Campaing.

No sub activity at all is the other big diference with my first game... Where are my subs? Interesting...

I also made some adjustements to the R&D and the first units i bought... Let's see how it works...

Greetings,

July, 21th. First diferences with the first match

WEST EUROPE

Norway - Northen Atlantic

Absolute calm.

France

France surrenders easily.
Britain forces didn't fight at all, they retreat as soon as Panzers enters in France. French forces made the same, more or less. Even, there were any air battle at all.
So, german losses were minimun, but allied losses too.
This time Axis ACCEPTs VICHY FRANCE.
So... what will be the next step for Germans?

Southern Atlantic

At the end some axis vessels have been raiding convoy lines at south of Azores' island. But quite light losses.

MEDITERRANEAN AREA

Lybia

A "large" Italian army is "digging" at Easth and South of Tobruk, even with some engineers... In front there are a few of british units.
Who will attack firts?

EAST EUROPE

Absolute calm.

---

This will be my first game with Vichy France... I have some ideas to follow, let's see if they works as i want to...

Now, i have 1.600 MPP to spend... [:'(]

August 1940

France surrenders

France has surrendered. It is actually to my surprise that Vichy France was installed, I had been making preparations for defending against another All of France gambit which led to a less then stellar defensive of the capital.

December, 30th. Big diferences with the first match [;)]

WEST EUROPE

Norway - Northen Atlantic - France - Great Britain

Absolute calm.

Only one or two air battles but just a skirmish.

Southern Atlantic

Light raiding around Canarian Islands.

MEDITERRANEAN AREA

Lybia

British forces took Bardia, but they didn't want, or couldn't, go into Tobruk. Here two lines of fortifications holds the city. British bombers and TAC bombs every turn the italian positions but only damages the cities.

In my last turn, Rommel arrives... Let's see what happends in 1941.

EAST EUROPE

Absolute calm.

Russia is still at 31%.

DIPLOMACY

Von Ribbentrop has been busy travelling from Spain to Sweden trying to persuade to this minor allies to join us in the conquer of Europe.

Sadly, our advances are quite modest. Spain is still around 70% and Sweden is around 60%.

I think i will fail in this duty... [:@]

---

As you can see this game is completely opposite to our first one.

Hitlet has decided to license the army. Men go back to the factories and we are setting up a ENORMOUS [:D][:D] army to fight in the future.

Will i be susccesful this time?

Let's see how this works in this first months of 1941.

UK must have a big and well prepared army. His incomes has been quite high... That's a problem!!!

I enjoy your commentaries. Did you do anything different to get Axis Navies in the parity position?

That's TOP Secret, my friend! [:'(]

But i can say that this time i didn't lost (yet) any ship.

So, nowadays, Axis vessels are more than Allied vessels (in number).

December 1940

North Africa

The British have captured Baridia and forced the Italian Army Group back to Tobruk where they hold strong fortified positions. Meanwhile, British Forces have mobilized in Egypt to counter the arrival of the DAK at Benghazi. The battle for North Africa is heating up.

Spain

The British, as you would expect, have maxed out their diplomatic efforts towards Spain (Max 3 chits) to counter German influence, but it is not enough. Spain continues to lean further and further towards the Axis. As USSR, even after war entry, is disabled from investing in Spanish diplomacy, the Axis Majors have a very strong opportunity to sway Franco before US entry into the war.

In a last ditch effort to sway Franco (75% Axis), the British have threatened to blockade American imports into Spain, which has tempered Franco's Axis leaning slightly (one time 5-10%) but the decision has also angered the USA, and lowered American leaning towards the Allies.

1940 Recap

What a difference between this round and our last! At this time in our first match, the Axis were still fighting the French in Algeria, the British had marched all the way to El Aghelia, and the Axis had begun their decisive battle to secure the English Channel. As the Axis chose to fight on all fronts, Barbarossa was noticeably weakened and Germany would never threaten any of the Major Soviet Centers (Moscow, Stalingrad, Leningrad). The result would be ultimately be Axis surrender in September 1945.

Now in Round 2, my opponent has cautiously reduced the opportunities for the Axis to take any unnecessary losses. Vichy was promptly accepted, the Italians have dug in around Tobruk, Germany looks for alliances with Spain and Sweden, and the Axis Fleets bide their time, building their collective strength. This has caught me somewhat off guard, and I suspect the Axis to be preparing an overwhelming force for the invasion of USSR, and the war to truly begin in 1941!

Early July 1940

North Africa

Despite the arrival of the DAK, it has been the British that have been on the offensive through the first half of 1941. The Axis have been pushed mainly West of Tobruk, though the fortress town itself still holds. The defensive positions prepared by Italian engineers have certainly aided the Axis in slowing our advance but with British Bombers and the Malta Effect hindering Axis supply, the Allies have yet to face a strong counter attack.

Major Minors

The Axis have continued in their efforts to sway Major Minors in their favor but Spain (66% Axis) and Sweden (64% Axis) have thus far resisted joining the conflict in Europe. Yugoslavia has surrendered after a Pro-Allied Coup while Greece remains the only neutral Baltic nation.

USSR

The Axis have opted at the very minimum for at slightly delayed Barbarossa. It will be interesting to see how long they will wait for the Soviets also grow stronger with each passing turn.

LATE JULY 1941

BARBARROSSA BEGINS

OKW had to delay the Barbarrossa Operations due of some refitting and updating works on the 5 ARMY GROUPS that are attacking Russia.

Our MAIN duty on this first turn was to CUT all the roads between the center of the front and Russia. Our armies were FULLY SUCCESSFUL and now, around 25% of Russian's units are isolated (15 units more or less).

Our SECONDARY duty was to kill every air unit close to the front line. Again, we could accomplish the OKW's order.

OKW reports that in this initial assault we were not looking to kill land units, that will be the task of the Center Group of Armies in the following turns, meanwhile the other FOUR Army Groups will go deep into Russia.

61 German land and air units were arranged to the start of Operation Barbarrosa.

However not all of them could be used in this first turn. As some of the need some refitting. They will enter in action in the next week!
