I wasn't really trying to hijack a thread. The title "when you think you're really smart" just seemed appropriate at the time of the incident and the results thereof.
Kimo is really a sweet cat. Climbs up on me and purrs loudly when I pet her. Then out of nowhere she tries to bite me and had does it consistently for over a year and a half. I just can't get a handle on her. One second loving and purring, and the next is in full attack mode, and it is true when around the other cats.
The lost toe nail hurt like hell for many days, then I got smarter and removed the bandage (lordy, what pain!), and let it ooze and heal. I love my little critters, but i can't stand one attacking another for no viable reason. I do use squirt bottles, calming portions, and showing the aggressor extra love and attention, but still the aggression goes on.
So. yeah, I'm not as smart as I think, and I apologize the the Admiral for this lowly Marine Staff Sargent hijacking his thread. It just seemed appropriate at the time.
Cats! What you gonna do? The answer always eludes me.
You are rewarding the aggressive behaviour and ensuring that it will be continued. To the cat, the way to get attention of the alpha male (you) it to attack other cats lower in the clawing order. Cats do not understand spreading the love you shower on them, they understand and respect power over them making them do what they don't really want to do. But if you see the aggressive cat nuzzling another cat, that's the time to reward it with more TLC.
