Cool! And very astute. I think the community here can testify as to the greater understanding that many games - certainly including AE - can impart.

When I was teaching the US Civil War at Aims Community College I required students to learn to play the Battleground Civil War Series. They were to play at least a full day's battle and then write a reaction paper as to what they learned worked, didn't work, and how it impacted them and their troops. Tended to be a lot of fun for all of us.

The babes group evolved into an organization providing simulation and training aids to the US and some foreign militaries for just that purpose. Training aids and exercises have been around for a long time. The services are getting smarter, however, and are using many more off-the-shelf components. The AE system is a part of our strategic and operational planning set. Matrix sold a ton back in December and January for CY 17.

The effect of Wargames: my mother told me I'd go blind if I didn't stop! I didn't stop, but with laser surgery it hasn't been so bad.

Indeed. Wargames feeds my thirst for knowledge, which makes me want to wargame, which..... a virtuous, richly rewarding, circle [:)]

Great article. I know so much more about world history from my 40 years as a gamer. Of course, it has not taught me jack-all about flower arraigning. I had to do that on my own. [8D]
