Axis mistakes galore

Post by terje439 »

Ok, so just bought the game, played a few turns, and realized that I tend to learn the game better when doing an AAR as that forces me to give more thought about things then normal.

Playing Axis side, and will probably not do better than they did historically.

Why the Axis?
Well, in all historic wargames I tend to play the losing side, as I find that more rewarding. Winning as the Allies is sort of "well, that was what actually happened, big deal".

What are your expectations?
Probably lose the game in the USSR.

How well do you know the rules/have you read the manual?
Not well at all, looked up elite reinforcements, as when I saw that button, I thought of Panzer Corps/Panzer General. Does not work the same at all.

Do you make your AARs look pretty, with cropped pics etc?
Nope, no clue how people do that, same with multiple pics in same post.

Turn 1

Seems the Poles did not want to give up Danzig. Oh well, their loss.

Immediate plans
1. All aerial units will engage in Poland on the first turn, then move as far west as possible. This means not all of them will get to act in Poland on turn 2.

2. Try to take Warsaw in the first 2 or 3 turns.

3. Start to send units west to prepare for France.

Supply raids
I will do these initially, but when the Allies starts forming killer packs, I will withdraw the navy and keep it as a force in being. At start all subs and the Deutchland will be sent out, all other ships remain in German waters.

Italy
The Ariete Tank Division will be sent to southern Italy, wait untill it can be reinforced, then shipped to Africa. The Army in Tripoli is sent east, while the Corps in Palermo is sent to Tripoli. The garrisions in Africa are also sent to Tripoli.

Germany
We hit the Polish with all we can. In the west, we simply stay put, with the exception that we move the last corps towards the French border.

Decisions/Events
We delay Student's 7th Flieger Division to allow it to form at full strength.
Polish destroyers head for the UK.

Polish front at end of turn

Turn 2

Immediate plans
1. Keep advancing in Poland.
2. Keep sending the planes west.
3. When able, start to send some armies and HQs west.

Supply raids
More ships are now getting near enemy lines, so hopefully we will manage to cause some economic loss to the UK.

Italy
We keep moving as before.

Germany
We are able to start to send some units away, but no mass exodus just yet.

Decisions/Events
Canada joins the war.
The USSR attacks eastern Poland.
The BEF arrives in France.

Purchases
The Grossdeutchland Mechanized Infantry is bought.
The fighter in west is upgraded.

Polish front at the end of the turn.

Turn 3

Weather
Rain and Mud hits us. There really are no rest for the wicked I suppose.

Immediate plans
Head west with all HQs, Panzers and armies, as well as some corps. Only corps size formation will guard against Stalin.

Supply raids
Last turn we managed to inflict 10 MPP damage to the UK, we hope for more. 2 subs and the Deutchland are all on enemy lines.

Italy
Nothing new, moves are still taking place.

Germany
We start to head west after Warzaw falls.

Purchases
Germany buys the 7th Panzer.

Decisions/Events
Poland surrenders.
We honour the Molotov/Ribbentrop pact.
France bans the communist party.
The UK occupies Irish ports. De Valera is not pleased.

Poland falls

Turn 4 Axis done

Weatehr
Still rain and mud.

Immediate plans
Head west.

Later plans
DoW Netherlands.

Supply raids
A total of 32 MPPs were denied the British last turn, but the Deutchland hits a snag this turn (see picture below)

Italy
Nothing new.

Germany
Moving west.

Purchases
Germany buys the 11th Panzer.
Italy buys the Trieste Mechanized Infantry.

Research
Germany starts to research Infantry Weapons2, and Industrial Production1.

Decisions/Events
We decide to try to make a deal with Stalin. We will ignore the Baltic if we get some more Polish territory.

Naval snag

Maybe you could at least resize the screenies to make them smaller? It's very difficult to follow your AAR if one screenshot takes up more than a whole screen.

If you have a resize tutorial for dummies...I only end up with pics the exact same size as here, just with white edges instead... [:(]

There are many online free picture resizers. Also if you have *any* paint program (like e.g. Microsoft paint) there are easy resize options in every one of those. In general, you load a picture, then just find the option in your program where you tell it the percentage to shrink/enlarge, do it and save. It's easier than uploading a picture! [:)]

Here's a page which explains things a bit more in detail:

T4 Allies

Nothing happens.

Raids
We do 38 MPPs in damage, while the allies raid the Norway-line for 12 MPP.

Events
The USSR does not like that France has banned the Communist Party.
The USSr agrees that the Polish borders should be redrawn, and that Lithuania are in theirs and not our zone of interest. Stalin loves us!

Turn 5

Let us see what resizing to 50% does for picture size.

Weather
Still rain and mud.

Immediate plans
Head west.

Later plans
DoW Netherlands.
Considering Vichy or complete conquest. If the latter, use Fallschirmjagers in Tunisia.

Supply raids
We do 25 MPPs damage, while the Allies do 12.

Italy
Ariete has arrived in southern Italy, needs to be brought up to strength before it ships to Africa.

Germany
Moving west. These are the boring months, where all we do is march.

Purchases
Germany buys the 3rd Panzergrenadier, andd gets the last fighter to max strength.
Italy finishes the reinforcement of the medium bomeber, and add 2 to the fighter, leaving it at 8.

Allies
Both French and British ships are attacking my raiders. One of the UK CLs takes a few nasty hits, and is down to 1 (!!!!) strength.

Decisions/Events
The USSR launches an attack on Finland.

Turn 6

Weather
Snow.

Immediate plans
Head west.

Later plans
Think I will go for complete conquest of France.

Supply raids
Allied losses : 11 MPP
Axis losses : 6 MPP

Italy
Medium bomber flies to Sicily.

Germany
Still marching to get in position to attack The Netherlands.

Allies
Still hell bent on getting at my raiders.

Purchases
Germany buys the 10th Panzergrenadier, and brings the medium bomber to max health.
Italy adds 6pts to the Ariete.

Decisions/Events
USSR is expelled from the League of Nations. Good on them!
Sad news, as the Graf Spee is scuttled. Cowardly captain!

Turn 7

Weather
Clear sky, but snow on the ground.

Immediate plans
Head west. The answer to the question "how long does it take an army to march from Poland to Holland", is long [:@]

Supply raids
Allied losses : 26 MPP
Axis losses : 11 MPP

Italy
Due to poor weather, the medium bomber is still at Sicily.

Germany
Relocating the army is so slow, but I cannot spend MPP on moves at this time, as every MPP is needed for units.
One of the subs is recalled after being targeted by the Allies.

Allies
They just do not let my raiders be...

Purchases
Germany max out all aerial units, upgrades 2 fighters and the medium bomber, allowing them to save 75 MPP for later.
Italy maxes out the Ariete and the fighter.

Decisions/Events
The USSR and France both boost their military production.
The Polish I Corps is formed in the UK. Seems we did not get them all...
