Not fearing Soviet Artillery.

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Not fearing Soviet Artillery.

0511 hrs - 1/B/TFC suffers 4 M1A1 Abrams KIA in hex 4424 and is wiped out
0511 hrs - 2/B/TFC is receiving artillery fire in hex 4424
0511 hrs - 2/B/TFC suffers 4 M1A1 Abrams KIA in hex 4424 and is wiped out
0511 hrs - 3/B/TFC is receiving artillery fire in hex 4424
0511 hrs - 3/B/TFC suffers 4 M1A1 Abrams KIA in hex 4424 and is wiped out
0511 hrs - 7/A/TFC is receiving artillery fire in hex 4127
0511 hrs - 7/A/TFC suffers 4 M1A1 Abrams KIA in hex 4127 and is wiped out
0511 hrs - 8/A/TFC is receiving artillery fire in hex 4127
0511 hrs - 8/A/TFC suffers 4 M1A1 Abrams KIA in hex 4127 and is wiped out”

Lesson learnt.

Stacks of NATO units in a hex is a very inviting target when spotted by recon units. That's two hard lessons. Spread out. Kill enemy recon.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Correct. Personally, I avoid stacks of more than 2 units (2 platoons, about 70 men). Also, stick to wooded terrain and built-up areas. It makes you harder to spot. When close to the enemy, deliberate movement is better too, for the same reason.

With the last patch I have a deep hatred of AI Artillery, (Either Soviet or NATO) ...I feel it ‘knows’ exactly where you hide
your unspotted your HQ’s, Arty units, and Dug in Combat units...
they get a real hammering, stacked or singular, I give them immediate move orders but to no avail, to slow,
a second stonk usually wipes them out or are so reduced to be worthless for combat.
I’ve put my Arty units on Counter Battery watch with bugger all results.

I’ve just played ‘British Steel’ scenario as Soviet three times now, and managed only a one Tactical and two contested results.
Just when you think you get the upper hand along comes Tac Air and Artillery to wipe the floor, a very brutal scenario.. Bah! :)
