Fratricide

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Fratricide

Post by JohnOsb »

I just witness my first fratricide, playing AI vs AI no damaged to any vehicles.

Has anybody witness a fratricide with any damaged results?

Only seen it with arty and air strikes.

It should be more plentiful among ground units, however. The odd friendly fire incident will happen here and there as it historically has, although some things can increase the chance of a friendly fire incident happening. Low morale, cut off from communication, thermal sights... [;)]

Direct fire does not target friends. Just the way the that code works in Red Storm. Good chance that might change in Southern Storm. [;)]

There is one question I have though - when a "danger close" artillery or air mission is called, does it still target all units in the same hex equally, or does the friendly unit that is "calling the coordinates" have some sort of protective factor?

I've called in arty strikes on swarmed platoons that would take no losses despite the companies on top of them losing bunches of units on each hit. However, I just chalk this up to the larger units having a bigger chance of getting hit.

It should have a higher rate of incidence at night or in low visibility.

Well for added realism there should be a high probability of US bombing UK troops....ahem...;)

A saying from WW2 went like this..When the British shoot the Germans duck, When the Germans shoot the British and Americans duck, when the Americans shoot everyone ducks. Sorry for that:) I'm only pulling your chain. All said in jest.

I remember at least once when a Russian stack was assaulting a mech infantry platoon (therefore both sides were stacked together on the same hex). I was playing on the mech inf side and the Russians were under AI. A Russian Arty strike landed on our hex, apparently as support for the assault, but one of the Russian platoons got zonked instead.
That's what I like about this game. Lots of unexpected realism. Congrats.
