Anybody interested in aquiring a FW-190?

Because I think there may be a few coming on the market in the next few years. FW-190

The text says FW-190A but the picture is FW-190D - "Dora" - a very different plane.

I wouldn't joke too much about this. The British did the same in Norway after the war - heaps of German arms and ammunition were dumped in the sea outside the Norwegian coast. Some say for much the same reason as mentioned here - looking after their own war-related industry. Nevertheless, I've had the pleasure of being able to train on much German WW2-type equipment, the MP-40 (Schmeisser) sub-machine gun, Luger pistols, MG34 machine-gun and the Mauser rifle. Not to forget the "button" tent piece.

The UK has been dumping surplus arms and munitions at sea for years. An admittedly old article here:

More here:

An interesting, though but not unbiased account here:

And apparently these dumps (well, the Beaufort's Dyke trench anyway) have had virtually zero environmental contamination impact:

In the late sixties, companies were producing kits so pilots could make their own reproductions of famous planes in 3/4 scale (IIRC) which included the P51 and the Fw190.
A Texas firm was making full scale Nakajima "Oscars" as well.

Still holding out for the Brewster Buffalo.[:D]

They still do. Except these were full scale. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8HblYdUUcg

You know these stories are a bit suspect when they begin talking about how the are supposed to be carefully packed and in good shape. Also, why would you bury something that has value when it could be profitably scrapped or sold elsewhere? In fact why bury at all. That in itself it expensive and time consuming. In the end the story make little sense. Urban myths take on a life of their own. We are all looking for that pot of gold.

Were those FW-190s made by VW? Did they give honest gas mileage figures?[8|]

good read:

Short summary: the suspected tunnel roof on the scan turned out to be a glacial deposit... no train, no gold. The original treasure hunters were unbowed — they were in the right place, they just had to dig deeper

Ah the 190D. Amazing aircraft, probably the best prop of the war and I will never understand why Germany didn't deploy more 190's to the Eastern Front as I think they would've excelled in the low altitude warfare that was occurring there.
Current Games:

AE PBEM against Mogami (Early'44)
WITE PBEM against Boomer Sooner

The priority became defending the heartland from Allied Bombers. The FW 190 had fairly heavy armament and was more suited to shooting down Allied heavies than the 109.
