A map and scenario editor would go a long way.

Thanks for the review Sulla. I've shortlisted the game on Steam but was waiting to see some reviews or aar's.

It looks promising although I'm not fully a fan of rts.

If you Google 'Sean O'Connors Windows Games' you can download demos of several games he has designed. Whilst you may wish to pass on most of them this does include an earlier version of Firefight. Just downloaded it but have not played yet. Bear in mind this may differ from the version now on Steam.

I have also downloaded his game 'Conquest' which, it transpires' is his version of the game 'Risk'. It has been a bit of fun, in a light hearted way.

Sean recently updated the demo on his website (http://windowsgames.co.uk/ff.html), so it's currently the same version as on Steam (v1.1).

I enjoy Firefight but I think the full version which I have might be a better option at 20 euro

If you download the free windows games here....

http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/

You can then play the firefight demo and you will get the option to buy the FULL game.

I recommend it.

Looks a lot like something Matrix Games had like 15-16 years ago.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

It plays like the Close Combat series, but I find it more fluid, and you get a career mode for any country you play in the full version.

If interested its well worth checking out the demo i`d say..

What a great game! It certainly has gone a long way since the 1998 version that I played.
(still had the Demo on an old game magazine CD)
I had no idea it was still being developed!

Firefigfht version history:

And the demo can be downloaded here:
http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/ff.html
(also a nice trailer movie there)

The game is similar to Close Combat but I find the path finding and unit movement to be much better. There is also less micro management and you do not need to constanly herd your troops.

EDIT:
After looking at the new demo of the game it seems to be very bare bones still. Would need more scenarios, a campaign and multiplayer mode.

Now there's an idea for a company like Matrix Games to step in and help a bit. Could be a nice succesor to the Close Combat series with some work.
