Crash on Launch

Hey, I just bought the game on Steam yesterday, and the game immediately crashes when I try to launch it.

I have tried:

-changing the settings to execute as an administrator

-verifying game cache

-renaming the sound and video folders

-running the dxsetup.exe provided with the game

My operating system is Windows 8 64-bit and the game is installed in D:/programs/steamapps/common.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.[&o]

If you start WitE via Steam you should first see the game launcher, offering multiple options including the 'play Game' button.
Is the Game launcher working and 'Play Game' leads to immediate crash or does the Game Launcher not work at all?
You may want to disable your Antivirus and test starting WitE, don't forget to re-enable it after testing.

BTW your operating system is outdated and has fallen out of support in January 2016, it's advised to upgrade to Windows 8.1 which is treated by Microsoft as Servicepack to Windows 8.0. You may need to cleanup your C: drive to free-up some disk space.

Yeah, I see the game launcher, it crashes as soon as I hit "play".

I tried disabling my antivirus, but the issue still persists.

Please navigate to your WitE installation folder, right-click on WarInTheEast.exe and choose 'Run as Administrator'
Do you get an error message upon crash ?
