From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. for me map scrolling is in between 0.75 and 1.00 on a i7 cpu, with a descent video card it's very rapid and looks really good imo, plays great, for some it maybe too fast so you will have to set up the map speed yourself in game and have it right for you, default for me is too slow so altered it, which is only a slider so takes all of 2 ticks / seconds

if any game could do with a remake this is it, a really special and great gem of a game

If anybody is still watching this thread I'm having trouble with GGWbtS v 1.04 in Windows 10. I can start and run the tutorial package, but when I start the game itself the cursor turns to an hourglass, I get a black screen and audio. I can hear the Matrix and 2X3 Games logo videos, then into "The Gettysburg Address", but no video. Thoughts? And thanks.

FIRST EDIT:
I found the resolution to my problem, at least part of it. I started the game again but this time when I heard the game intros starting I hit 'esc' a few times and then the game loading screen appears and the game starts. I assume if I just waited long enough it would have happened anyway. However, the game itself is running in like 1280 x 720, not 1920 x 1080, which is my desktop resolution.

SECOND EDIT:
Problem resolved.

1) Go to the start menu game link (shortcut).
2) Right click on the shortcut, go to 'more' and click on 'Open file location'. This will take you to the game's Quick Start shortcut.
3) Right click on the shortcut and click on Properties. In that window under the Shortcut tab is the target location command that will run the game executable file. The location command is enclosed in quotation marks. You can add switches at the end of this command line to give the program additional instructions.
4) Go to the end of the target command line (to the right of the right quotation mark) put in a space and then add the following switch: -width=???? -height=???? where the ? marks are the screen resolution you want to run the game in. So, my switch looks like this: -width=1920 -height=1080

This simple addition to the target command line fixed the whole problem. Now, the videos run and although the game menu appears in the upper left corner of my game, when you start a scenario, the game runs in full HD.

I hope this might help somebody who is having the same problem in this game or maybe another.

If you did not resolve your problem, I found I had no problem with Windows 10 or 11. My solution to your problem is delete the original installation. Then reinstall. Then download Update v1.040. Then restart. Should work fine.
