Just a reminder. We play with defensive shore bombardment option.

If you are referring to Hanoi I know. But I'm hoping perhaps those ships won't be there for the entire turn......

With the weather we have it is that they remain. But one can always hope...

Orders for the second part of our impulse.

All 4 US land moves saved for Finland.

Air Rebase:

CW:
LND3 in Cardiff -> Madrid
LND4 in Tunis -> Madrid
FTR2 in Portsmouth -> Plymouth

France:
ATR in CSV -> Rabat

USA:
LND3 in China -> hex 82, 148 or any other available hex in supply from Stilwell
CVP on Béarn in Auckland -> Yorktown II
FTR2 in Cadiz -> hex 78, 35 in Tunisia
LND3 in Casablanca -> 75, 17 (Spanish Morocco)
FTR3 in Casablanca -> Malta
FTR2 in Casablanca -> Cisneros (Spanish Sahara)
FTR2 in Kavieng, New guinea (120, 180) -> Shortland, Solomon Islands (126, 185)

One air move remains for Finland

No reorganization.

I'm debating a combined with the Soviets to get the Baltic Fleet to sea - it means less land movement but there isn't that much to be done anyway given the rain and storm.

Either way there would be no orders from China or the Soviet Union until land movement.

Two thoughts.

1) There is a risk that the Baltic Sea freezes and then the Soviet ships are destroyed since they have no ice-free port in the Baltic Sea.

2) If you do a combined to move the fleet, then the naval movement takes place before land movement.

Have you considered strategic bombing with both the Soviets and the Chinese?

The US bomber in China can be used as China pleases. Although, if there are no other missions, I think it should bomb the factory in Shanghai, especially if the Chinese fighter are ready to assist.

So there is just one turn in each year that the Soviets can get the fleet out without fear of loss from ice? Wow. Okay I'll do a land.

Re the second point I'm not sure what you mean unless its the 'no orders' comment - well that would except the fleet move had I chosen a combined.

I don't want to use the bombers at this stage. The weather by the law of averages has to clear up at some point and I am going to need maximum air power to achieve anything.

Got it.

I have a different philosophy. If I do not use the bomber for anything else I usually want to use them to harass the enemy whenever possible. To either suffer some production losses from time to time, or to spend resources in protecting the factory. Same with convoys. That is why I often raid far away unguarded convoys with little chance of success. The opponent then has the option to trust his luck to protect the convoy, or spend resources protecting it.

Edit: Although this may make me predictable, and, I think, it is an advantage to be unpredictable in wargames.

Good job in annoying the Japanese with the partisans. Getting Japan to attack one of them increased the Chinese production.

Right. Do we have a plan of action for how to proceed?

No. No we don't. But I will have a look at this on Saturday morning.

Well there are two possible attacks using the winterised bonus but the one in the south is massively risky - not just because the chances of success are slim, but because if the weather turns then I could be in big trouble in the south.

An attack in the north is just as risky - if every goes right then I would have 3:2 no modifiers (Assault) but probably worth taking a chance on.

3:2 assault seems a bit low to attack on unless Germany has no loss unit in the hex.

Either way, I think you should advance up to the German lines and threaten to outflank them. No need to do it all in one impulse.

To beat Axis we need to engage them on every front. At the moment Germany dictates the pace that they want the war fought in.

Yep. So what is the plan for engagement in the west?
