TOP SECRET ORMSTER + WARSPITE ONLY

Post by warspite1 »

This AAR will hopefully be underway shortly - as soon as a grown up i.e. My Lord Ormster of Stockholm - has shown me how to load the patch we will be using.

The two sides will not be looking at the others AAR and we would ask that no comments on strategy or advice be given.

From my side, playing the USSR, France and the Chinese Communists, I will be approaching the Soviet side very much with the intention of looking after the Soviets and not looking to help the western powers unless I have to. I will of course expect maximum assistance from the West in return. Whether that works in practice I don't know, but we'll see how that develops.

The optionals in play. This will be a bit of a learning curve for me as some are new - and I feel naked without me light cruisers!

Uncle Joe has agreed with the Emperor of Japan that we will have a peace pact in place in line with 9.5 of the rules manual. Obviously we have no chits in play as this has not been coded and so the garrison ratio will be sans chits.

This pact gives me the ability to set up for an attack on Persia and hopefully leave time to reinforce the Far East thereafter.

I forgot to place the Siberians as I e-mailed the turn back without ending the Soviet turn..... School boy error Ho hum.....

An attack on Persia is in the offing....

The bulk of the remainder of the Soviet forces are ready to re-claim Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina.....and maybe Romania itself?.....

I scrapped very little with the Soviets. Just one silly biplane and a rubbish transport.

There's no place in the Soviet airforce for silly aircraft...

I always tend to scrap that 3-5 MOT since I think it is to weak for a 4 BP cost unit. And it costs oil. But I am not all that fond of motorized units for any nation since they bring little benefit and huge oil costs.

A typically shabby western trick to get me to scrap my best units [:@]

If the British tell me to scrap the unit I KNOW that keeping it must have been a good idea. You don't fool me and you have to get up pretty early in the morning to get one over on Uncle Joe.

We only want what is best for us all. Please do remember that Germany is the aggressor. We should all sign a trade embargo against Germany!

I tend to be a heavy scrapper. At least in regards of transports. I certainly cleaned house with the US transportation fleet.

Interesting. I think the US needs almost every transport it has. I would scrap the 3-2 TRS, although I have seen some players advocate keeping it, but the 3-3s are actually needed. For me, the US tends to build out its transport pool completely.

I agree that the 3 point Russian MECH is very, very scrapable.

Italy place lots of forces in Western Libya. And additional forces seems ready to be transported. To Libya?

CW scraps a lot as well. Several TRS go to the scrap yard.

As Orm alluded to above, the Italian set up is "interesting". The French border is lightly guarded and there are plenty of heavy units at La Spezia to be carried.... somewhere. If Mussolini gets fresh he can hopefully expect a less than easy ride (although the Germans could of course soon be heading south to assist).

I guard the Italian border heavily. This leaves the north very light but...

In the north I am going to have to rely upon the appearance of the reserves to bolster my forces here. A hand picked squadron wait ready for possible deployment in the Baltic.

Some say its gamey but....

The units picked could have been better. No Algerian TERR and the regular unit in Syria is only a 3-quality.

I split the remainder of the fleet into a squadron in Syria (to escort the transport), a fast squadron in Algiers and the two remaining battleships in the south of France.

Scrapping is nothing to write home about. But here it is anyway.

French scrapping plans - not good subject matter for a book...

I wouldn't have scrapped the CW TRS. I also would have kept the French ones around, since Free French TRS are very nice to use by the Allies. I like to have at least three French TRS/AMPH on the board when 1943 comes around. Now, that becomes a bit difficult when the force pool is halved...

I feel that the Chinese made a major mistake in letting Chengchow go without a fight. This gives the Japanese the opportunity to blast the Communists off the map. The time it takes to destroy Chengchow is what gives the Communists time to hold. A good GAR and Chungking MIL only costs four points to rebuild, and is really worth it to slow the Japanese down.

We will get to see if the Japanese take advantage of this.

After that opening there is much to think about - both in China and Europe.

China

Currently debating whether a 3:1 attack on the two ART is sensible....

France

Well its pretty obvious what is coming - but what to do? Mixed thoughts in London and Paris at present. France prefers a naval strategy and London is looking at a land impulse for the French.....

CW

A Combined is being mulled over to reorganise the Poles
