The Borg Queen was assimilated by the Borg in the 2330s while she was a 7 year old.

Prior to the Borg Queen there was another leader as shown here in 2265 when the El-Aurian home worlds were destroyed.

Not assimilated.....but destroyed!
Why did the Borg fear the El-Aurians so much they had to try and destroy them?
Explained in the mod.

I have been creating more images for the mod including background images for a whole range of new characters as well as images required for role-play cards.

Below is an image I created of Saavik for her role in one particular storyline in this mod.

But wait...she is from the movie era...not the TOS TV era!
What is she doing in the mod?

All will be explained.....

"The mirror universe is a parallel universe where the patterns of events move in similar manners to that of the primary universe, but the intentions and characterizations are different, often showing "evil" characteristics in place of "good" and vice versa."

So while we have Saavik from the primary universe....well sort of anyway....we also have the Saavik from the Mirror Universe appearing in the mod.

You can see that the image below compared to the one in the prior post are identical....almost.... indicating the difficulty you will have when you meet either one of the two Saaviks in the mod. Using the same image for both Saaviks is intentional for this mod.

Which Saavik have you just met?
Apart from certain differences in the picture you can easily tell the Mirror Saavik from her scar.....

Will she be "good" or will she be "evil"?

The picture may give a hint.....


EDIT:

I was not happy with the picture and have replaced it with a better Mirror Saavik.
The scar took ages to do.

To do the scar I copied a real life scar from the face of a young woman.
The scar was originally very wide and ugly.
Darkened the source picture with the scar to roughly the same complexion as Saavik.
Using the clone tool I reduced the width of the scar from a wide one to a pencil thin scar.
Added light reflection on parts of the scar for realism.
All in all 90 minutes to do this one picture.

Mining ships are now out of the mod and now replaced by the correctly phrased survey vessels.

In Star Trek survey vessels are not only ships that explore new worlds but they also do things like mining and cataloguing.

Sounds about right. I've been working on a mod for a different game and it took me about 3 hours in Photoshop to turn this pixel art Elite Dangerous ship into a small cargo ship.

The ships are scaled large for each race and will be scaled down once I have the number of ships worked out for the mod and do some stress testing.
The aim is to have the ships as large as possible while ensuring the mod is also playable.

My main development machine for this mod died and thanks to daily backups I have transferred the entire mod and workfiles across to my laptop.

One of the scenarios that you may have in this mod if you play Distant Worlds with Role Playing Active is a situation too horrifying to contemplate.

In Space Seed the Botany Bay with Khan on board was discovered by the Enterprise.
What if instead of the Enterprise discovering the Botany Bay that it was the Romulans instead who woke Khan from hibernation sleep?

This is work in progress art for the RPG story for this mod where Khan and his followers ally themselves with the Romulan Star Empire.

Concept art preview........

When the Enterprise reaches an unexplored planet the mechanics of the game will have one of three situations occur:

1. Readings are taken from the Enterprise science station..... no life forms found
2. Life forms detected on planet but civilization is still primitive and Prime Directive determines Contact with them is disallowed.
3. Advanced life forms who have reached warp technology level found on planet.....


If option 3 occours then your communications officer hails the planet.

If a reply is received :

The leaders on the planet may not wish to meet you.
However if a meeting with them is arranged captain Kirk will arrange a landing party down to the planet


The following is a very rough concept I have put together to work out how the landing parties work.
The maps will be on planets such as these or on alien spaceships.

Still going through working out how the landing parties will work in the mod but in theory in the picture below this would be where Kirk makes First Contact with the Vulcans whose city is on the right of the map.

Still very much early work in progress.....

To keep Distant Worlds flowing time on a planet or another spaceship will be short unless something dramatic occurs which threatens the ship or crew.

The picture below is just one of the many ideas I have for landing party missions but the final version will no doubt be much different and much simpler. The key is to keep the landing party procedures no more than 3 or 4 steps and the picture below would be more steps than that..... but it gives an idea of what I am looking at.

Considering this is Khan we are talking about..... anything is possible.
He could take control of the Romulan ship and have the Romulans go to war with him after detemining he was a threat to the Empire.

Various scenarios will happen depending on who finds the Botany Bay.
It could be the Klingons, Ferengi, Vulcans...... or any other race that finds him..... even the Enterprise.

Who knows....the Romulans or Klingons may just decide they need target practice and just blow up the Botany Bay.

Working on a mod of this size can be very daunting and the end can seem unreachable....
However the way to get around this is to make sure you have the basics down first and then add the details later.

For example, images for characters and ships are cosmetic but the rest of the mod is game-play.

So even though I had spent time at the start to create individual portraits for each race, images for ships, characters etc were pretty much uniform as these were to be added in the end.

Doing it this way means I can get in plenty of game-play as I develop and test each section of the mod.

The default procedure for landing party missions to planets or other missions is now simpler.Not everyone will want to play this mod with too much level of detail so by default I have toned down the complexity of landing parties, damage control, medical emergencies and so on.

For the rest of us, which includes myself, this mod will be detailed and anything can happen. You can have situations arise such as a fault while transporting down to the planet.
The landing party may be infected by an alien virus.
First contact with a new civilization may put one of the landing party in grave danger.
Passing back in time could result in the Federation been wiped from the mod..... a game ending disaster if Kirk fails.

One of the great things about Distant Worlds Universe is that you can be one ship on an adventure experiencing Kirk's full 5 year mission while the rest of the game plays out around you.

You could be working out how to get out of a tense situation on Andoria or Vulcan while ambassadors on Earth are negotiating with war hungry Klingons. By the time you finish the mission and leave the system the Federation and Klingons may be at war and you suddenly encounter a Klingon battleship.

Adding character names to all 75 races.

I am setting up the mod with classic battles with the Klingons and Romulans.

105 Klingons are featured in the mod and the Klingons are known by their Klingon name and not their English name.
It makes sense they would not refer to each other by their English name.

I am currently doing a full test of the mod using the Federation, Klingons, Romulans and Vulcans.

These are the 4 big races in Star Trek and I am making sure that the "feel" is right between these big 4 to recreate the atmosphere of the tv show.

Early Access Games....... Discover, play, and get involved with games as they evolve.

When you look on Steam you will see you will find games currently in development released in early alpha stage which are updated frequently. This allows game players to try the game in its very early development and give the developers feedback about bugs etc. and is very popular.

I am considering doing the same with the mod.

The plan would be to release an early stable version of the mod and then release updates weekly as the mod progresses.
While the mod would have all 75 races appearing the playable races would be as the Federation specifically with intense battles with the Vulcans, Klingons and Romulans.


Please give me feedback if this would be something you would be interested in.

This would also apply for the other mods I am working on

: Star Trek Voyager
: Star Wars
: Doctor Who
: Stargate
: Battlestar Galactica

Each of these mods are being designed with gameplay different from other mods so far released for Distant Worlds Universe.

Look interesting, just wondering are you doing this all by yourself? Noticed you started this thread back in March of last year. My favorite race is the Romulans, wasn't sure if you can only play The Federation or any major factions.

I couldn't see the map well, just wondering if you already place Alpha Centauri, if you do, there no need to place a habit planet there, cause there is none support human life there. Mostly barren and volcanic rocks, can be like Vulcan. Just noticed there were miscaluation about that system, cause Alpha Centauri has a low level red dwarf star and very low energy hitting that planet or planets.

Yes I am the only one working on the project so it is taking time to do.

You can play any of the 75 races in the mod but at the start the Role Play is limited to the Federation with Klingons and Romulans also being role play at a later date.
