I have a question about weapon altitude limits. (This may be corrected in the next version, but someone should at least know about it.) Perhaps there is nothing wrong, but I just had a SA-22 Panstir (which has a listed high ceiling of 27000 feet, shoot down a F-15 flying at 30000 feet. Perhaps this is supposed to be 27000 feet PLUS the ground altitude, of about 4000 feet, and then it would have exceeded 30000 feet. So, can someone clarify this? I have uploaded a copy of the scenario. The SA-22 missiles are already flying and should hit within seconds.

Thanks in advance.

Doug

I think the barometric pressure is also comes in play with missile's altitude limit. Temperature and launch height does affect the flight characteristics, which means range.

I will see to it from your Savegame.

I'm not sure that I understand your message.

The SA-22 has a 10 mile range, and it was fired at the F-15I somewhere around that limit, so that's not a problem.

The problem was that the F-15I deliberately flew at 30000 feet, or 3000 ABOVE the listed ceiling of 27000 feet for the SA-22, but it was still shot down. I did notice that the land elevation is at 4000 and some-odd feet. So, if the land elevation is supposed to be added to the weapon's ceiling of 27000 feet, then I guess it works fine. If not, then the SA-22 is shooting higher than it should.

What I was imply is the air pressure. I am not entirely certain if it affects the range in game, but it is the best I could guess for a moment. I will test it out when I back home.

Yeah it adds land elevation. This changes a bit in v1.11.

Let's say you put an SA-22 on top of Mount Everest (approx 29K feet), do you think it could hit your F-15 at 30 K ft MSL?

So yeah elevation matters :)

Out of curiosity: is there really such of barometric pressure featured in CMANO?

Tomcat84,

That's some interesting phraseology that you used. And, a brilliant illustration, as well.

I'll be honest, however, CMANO wasn't the first thing that came to mind when reading your reply.

Nice job!
