First. I do not want to loose these units.

I have lost way too many.

I have not been able to break any pockets so far over these first 23 turns.

Here goes.

First attack the Italians and seize the vino.

I scrap together 3 cav units and attack.

Vatutin much better than this German General Obstfelber.

The southern pincer succeeds.

north flank

Post by BrianG »

btw again using soak off attacks. Must drain German supply.

Here northern shoulder is cut. I think I have 2 panzer 3 mot and 1.3 inf div in pockets.

And Blizzard 2 turns away.

If he reopens the pocket I need to break it. He would then be in deep problems come blizzard.

Secret title

Post by BrianG »

I was going to call this 34th army to the rescue.

They will be sent to where pocket is cut off. Good general.

The major river down here are impossible to attack over in snow season.

Good D position but if I can flank his front (December blizzard),
from above Stalino, he have to do a hasty retreat West.

Bridgehead

Post by BrianG »

For some reason he left this bridgehead on his side of the river.

I attack the Rum tank and funnel in troops.

btw The Russian 41 Winter O starts in November not in December.

I also send over 3 divisions into the hex just NW of Voroshilvalod

East of Kursk

Post by BrianG »

I attack West against split up Inf Div and a few whole ones.

The retreat here is odd b/c the retreat casualties are very low imo. The retreat was into a zoc.

My tanks here will head SW.

Final view

Post by BrianG »

I also attacked him just NW of the pocket and will try to cause some flanks problems.

His best move may be to route out all the units.

But he also has seen what damage I have taken so I would not be surprised If he attempts another larger pocket or just consolidates this one.

In any case he will have more than a few units in bad spots for the blizzard.

The 34th has arrived to save the day. Which will be needed next week.

This is where we are as of last night.

That makes you all very up to date!

Being a conservative type of player I would just rout them out I think. No point in taking chances with the blizzard looming.
Well done on saving those guys if he does.

Thank you for demonstrating this attack sequence. I have just started to effectively attack in my game as Soviets and it helps to see your approach.

Given the date, I assume the battle was fought in snow?

Hi,
allways interesting to see both sides.
But casualities appears to be _very_ low all across the map?
Let's hope this didn't become an issue.

But great game so far, I would love to see a blowing counteroffensive.

German losses have been lowered a lot in this new Patch. The new C/W- counter-attack/withdrawal rule based on experience has probably cut German losses by about 50% just from what Ive noticed over 3 turns.

However massive bombing by the Soviet airforce has more than made up for the reduced combat casualties at least 1943 on.

As someone who is just about to endure some serious pain a la Monsieur Sillyflower (playing the Axis to his Soviet with blizzard starting next turn) I would like to extend my best wishes to you. In my last game against him where I was the Russian I was in a similar position to you, but I collapsed in 1942 mainly due to the AP crunch (or at least that what I tell everyone). So although it may appear to be bleak the fact that you can get your lost units back now should make it more of a contest going into 42 & beyond.
Once again good luck

turn 24

Post by BrianG »

Nothing good to report.

Sillyflower cleared up the lower mess and is generally behind good river defense positions.

My Army is weak and will mount poor blizzard and worse now that retreat casualties are almost zilch.

Good timing for this change.

My only armament which will be at full strength in the future is tanks. Have not lost any tank factories.

I don't know the pertinent facts of Army strength but based on the amount of Pockets I would guess the Soviet Army is very weak. Brian should be able to do an offensive still just from the Bonus but it wont be super strong and will leave the Germans in a very good position come 1942. Losing the North/Moscow/Rostov all before the end of 1941 is crushing to Soviet manpower recruitment. Even if the population displaced it will be damaged for a long time, which means a massive hit since he loses the massive multiplier for 1941 on those key centers.

This doesn't look good for the soviets at all.
