I've been looking in on AT Gold and am quite impressed with the way AT has evolved and the people who contribute to the development. So, I installed my original AT v1.00 to get re-acquainted with the AT world. But there are a few questions I have which I hope the community can help me with:

1. I have AT v1.00, are there any patches released to upgrade v1.00?

2. Is there a good down load for NATO/Russian/German unit icon images? I have some RealMod NATO unit icons, but these are not as good as the icons seen in Childress's earlier post.

3. Seems that in v1.00 I was able to use Paint to modify jpg icons. Does AT still use jpg icons or has everything gone to png?

4. Is a png editor required, and if so, which one? From what I have seen png is not friendly, so any help in its use would be appreciate.

More questions to come as I get back into AT.

Regards, RhinoBones

I'll look around for updates to the original AT and get back to you. I would highly recommend a purchase of AT Gold (also includes AT Classic).

Last update for AT WWII:
ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/AdvancedTactics/AdvancedTactics-UpdateCompDR-v120.zip (2008-08-26)

Last hotfix:
http://www.advancedtactics.org/AdvancedTactics123b.zip

Note that ATG is on sale for only $15 and is a much better game than the original AT.

I answered your first question re patches. The original AT is no longer available or supported, though as I mentioned before it is included in ATG as AT Classic.

Paint.Net is an excellent and free graphics editor.

jpg = best used for photos
png = best used for graphics

I have used GIMP, which is also free, and rather extensive in its capabilities. It is essentially the free equivalent of photoshop.

The advantage of png is that it has transparency. But, it makes large files.

I have used GIMP

Thanks. Works real good and the learning curve isn't steep.

Yes, it is a great program that can do just about anything Photoshop can, and its free. Unlike Blender the learning curve is small.

Really appreciate the info on GIMP. I've been making my preferred unit symbols and colors. NATO is pretty basic, German and Russian symbols are both individual and hybrid:
