OT: Stop the madness

Post by KenchiSulla »

Yes, it is off topic and yes it is current..

Lets just take a minut to pay our respect to the victims of the 2015-11-14 attacks in Paris, France, Europe...

Close it if you need too.. Just needed to get it of my chest

Bow your head, for now they are timeless.
They could not avoid the unwanted violence.
Now in eternal sleep consumed with silence.
Look right and left, thy neighbor must show defiance.

May they find the peace in the dark of night.
Serene in its search for the guiding light.
History will make it right.
Ride forward our gallant knight.

The world remembers, it always remembers.

No. Liberté and Egalité are contraditions.

If you believe that violence validates you, you are mistaken.
If you believe that violence is an expression of who you are, you are correct.
If you believe violence converts fiction into facts, you are mistaken.
If you believe you must achieve through murder, oblivion in order to become a martyr, all of us achieve oblivion and we don't have to murder anyone to get there.
If you believe you must murder people to please your god, you are telling us your god is helpless.
Please, if there is a god, save us from such people.

I don't know any Arabic, but I was thinking, could we stop calling them Daesh or Da'sh or ISIS or ISIL and just call them, in Arabic, the ones who believe their god is impotent? That might work.

Might work to do what? [8|] And please do not answer that.

Can't this thread be used just to express condolences with the victims and their families of this terrible tragedy - and to show our support?

We've already had one thread closed down because someone - a WITP-AE regular sadly - decided to make an insensitive remark that then predictably sent the thread spiralling to lock.

I'm not sure if Matrix would approve of this thread or not. Making a call here... It's OK to express compassion for the victims, but please stay away from politics, or religion, or anything close to that or this will have to be closed down.

It's a horrible situation and my heart goes out for the victims as all of you do.

Thanks for not closing it, if we can't even agree to mourn the dead, we're not much of a community.

Part of it happened just a few blocks away from my place in Paris. Not a very touristy, or rich, or symbolic part of town, just small bars and restaurants where youngsters go drink beer and smoke cigarettes on the pavement before the cafes. Usually full every evening and crowded every week end. As a grumpy old AE player, I often curse those kids when they pass below, singing, drunk, trying to catch the last metro. I feel bad about it today.

My sorrow is to great to express in words.

Words can't express the emotions.
