The Battle of Kursk was a devastating ground battle fought on the Eastern Front during the WWII. The Germans tried to eliminate the salient of Kursk with the aim to destroy the Soviet forces and regain the initiative after the annihilation of the 6th Army at Stalingrad. To do that they massed an impressive armoured force strengthened with the new panzer models, Tiger Is. The Red Army, knowing in advance the intentions of the enemy, spent all the time at their disposal to create an impenetrabledefence system, full of minefields, anti-tank traps and bunkers, making impossible in the end for the Germans to proceed. The huge loss of invaluable resources – human and material – and the following Soviet counter attacks forced the Wehrmacht to fall back, losing Strategic Superiority in that sector of the War.
