No one should be surprised by any of these. It's the military's job to plan for possible eventualities. Frankly as a Briton I would be rather put out if the Americans had not considered us important enough to have a plan against [;)]

and, to be fair, we did have quite detailed plans to invade the US from Canada

When USA does it, it's called 'planning'. The Canadians it's called 'scheming' [8D]

War Plan Red, War Plan Orange, would be fun games to play I wonder if any games take advantage of these "what if's"?
