What altitude do I set my torpedo bombers at when conducting an attack? Do they drop to low level when conducting an attack or must I set them at 200ft beforehand?

The altitude that you set is there 'transit' altitude (I might be using the wrong word there). They will automatically change altitude for their attacks.

Boxof9, witpqs is correct in that you can set ANY altitude you want for your torpedo bombs (unlike dive bombers that have to be set for 10-15K in order to perform dive bombing attacks) and thus avoid flak for some aspects of its "transit" to target, but it will then drop down to 200 ft or so and be subject to a storm of AAA until it reaches release point. I usually have my torpedo bombers fly at the same altitude as the DBs so that I can protect both with my fighter escort. Hal

I set mine at 10k, out of range of a lot of LAA, as Dr Hal mentions, they still drop to the required release point. I also like this height if using them as normal bombers so I dont have to remember to change heights.

doesn't this cause a double AA hit, one for the high altitude and one for the lower?
I thought it is best to keep them at 3000, then the divebombers at 12000, escorts at DB altitude + 2000.
then if lucky the defending CAP goes for the DB high altitude, and the torpedo bombers get in close, only hit with the low altitude flak of the fleet, to wreak havoc.
in my KB I even have 1 escort at 3000 to support the kates in the first fase of the assault against the CAP.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to flying TB at a different altitude to that flown by the DB.  I fly them at different altitudes and find the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

As far as flak is concerned.  TB get hit twice, both at their assigned altitude and at their hardcorded delivery run of 200 feet.  There is no way to avoid this.

IIRC the dive bomb Alt is 10 to 14k. If u set 15k u will get a glide bomb attack.

IIRC Dive bombers are dive bombing from altitude <10k,15k> - that is inclusive those altitude and glide bombing while in <1000,10k) and (15k,50k>.

Tip if you fly 1,000ft as a surprise you could slip under cap but you will cop flak in the face!
