Aircraft ranges and interceptions - 12/7/2014 8:51:58 PM

Hi,

** I have posted this question on DC1 but did not get resolved - so trying here in hope! ***

Appreciate help with the following:

1)I have air range preference ticked. What does the hexes that are highlighted represent when you click the air unit ? I am confused because I was able to select an air unit in the air attacking screen that was further away than the maximum hexes that were highlighted.

2)Why are my aircraft not intercepting ? I have interception set to 75% with the readiness at 100% . Is it because they are air units which contain bombers as well as fighters ?
I ask because my aircraft are suffering heavy losses when attacking Brussels, when I was expecting my air units to intercept the enemy fighters.

Many thanks.

Hi MTTTOD,

Yes I visit the forums over here more often. Wise move to post here as well.

1. The highlighted hexes are the intercept range of the air unit.

2. There is a random chance an intercept will not launch. This chance is bigger the further towards the edge of the intercept radius the enemy air attack is taking place. Furthermore if your oil is low, that might be a cause too.
But due to the way you phrase your question I am not sure you fully understand the concept of intercept. Intercepts only take place for the defending side. If you want fighters to escort your bombing run you have to add them to the aerial attack.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Vic

Hi Vic,

Thanks for your quick response.

Yes I do understand the concept of intercepts, I must of been unlucky as to why my fighters did not intercept (they were close to the action).

Do only units with just fighters intercept, i.e. if a unit has a mix of bombers and fighters will the fighters still try to intercept ?
Or does the unit have to consist solely of fighters for them to intercept ?

Many thanks.

Also make sure your units are set to intercept. And that their readiness is high enough to meet the setting.
edit: never mind, I just read the rest of your #2.
