Aerial mining- only Heavy Bombers?

Post by Dili »

For example Swordfish and other planes were employed for it.

1- What other kind of planes can do aerial mining if not only heavies?

2 -If i put a mine in weapons load can it use that mine model?

For the Allies, the only air dropped mine is the mark 13. It can be dropped by any 4E or 2E bomber. I can't recall if single engine bombers can drop it.

IRL the TBF was used for aerial mining. Don't know if the game allows it though.

Yes it was. Maybe if it is set as a level bomber, don't know if level bombers take off from carriers. If it is only limited to engine count a cheat can be done, putting a second engine. Sacrilege i know...

If it could be used to mine, then mining missions would show up in the menu. In game that is. In real life the TBF was an incredibly multi dimensional aircraft.

Air dropped mines can be delivered under the following conditions.

1.  Post 1 January 1943.

2.  By any aircraft capable of undertaking the "city mission".

3.  The target city is a port.

To be specific about the TBM: it is capable of aerial mining - tested it in the Downfall Scenario.

Thanks Alfred and spence.

One last question, are the mines models employed dependent of a fixed slot in device database?

No mention ever by a dev.

It is a hard code issue essentially.  I really see no point in trying to create either additional aerial mines or trying to specify them as listed displayed ordnance on aircraft loadouts.  I suppose you could go down this path if you use the bomb filters, but as I said in several posts in this thread

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3712728&mpage=1&key=bomb%2Cfilter

it is extremely easy to "stuff it up".  For example I suspect you will create problems bombing a non port city with a dedicated city bomb filter.

Frankly I see no value in doing anything.  All that is required is to know how to employ the mission correctly and that has been answered.

BTW this is one of many "modding" threads you have opened here in recent times rather than in the modders sub forum where the real experts reside.  You are much more likely to get more informed answers if the modding experts reply.

Alfred since the torpedo planes have the city mission the idea to add a mine in loadouts was not necessary anymore.

The propose now was just to change the mine characteristics. The Allied to a British model and the Axis to German model.

You right this should have been in editor sub forum.
