I had the misfortune to have my opponent unleash the expanded KB on an assembled invasion fleet. My bad for not having enough air assets protecting the 2 Amphib TFs as 32 fully loaded ships hit the bottom. Of all of these 1 DD and 1 AM went down the rest were packed with my poor electrons. The cripples were numerous and meat for the next day which mercifully didn't come. The result was that my LCUs were shattered and the Allied war effort took a setback of about 1 year. This occurred in 8/43.

Yes, it is almost like you really need to find and engage KB at least once before engaging in any ambitions invasions. Even a bloody draw will work to your advantage. If you lose six carriers and sink six of his then you have won and then can really get about the business of destroying Japan. But if he can get to your invasion force without fighting through your carriers, you have made a tactical mistake. But you should be fine giving time. Actually, it is easier rebuilding American units than replacing the lost AKAs and APAs. They are pure gold. Go get em...

Lost the entire allied Death Star in late 1944 trying to support the third (all failed) invasion of Japan against Rader.
We were before the beta patch that altered the super-coordination of air strikes... but still...all strikes came from LBA!!!

While trying to support an early war landing at Wake, mini-KB was surprised by the combined 4 Allied CVs in a 2x2 PBEMs. Mini-KB was destroyed in detail, including a supporting battleship for no damage to the Allies. These were the worst losses I've suffered in a game.

That sounds vaguely familiar. Have we talked about that before?

While trying to support an early war landing at Wake, mini-KB was surprised by the combined 4 Allied CVs in a 2x2 PBEMs. Mini-KB was destroyed in detail, including a supporting battleship for no damage to the Allies. These were the worst losses I've suffered in a game.

That sounds vaguely familiar. Have we talked about that before?

It should sound vaguely familiar, dude. That was Mynok and I against you and USS Mike. That PBEM only made it 'til about June 1942.

I *didn't* mention that we got 'some back' a couple months later. A full KB caught the four Allied fleet Allied carriers around Wake island and got off a devastating alpha strike, while hiding in a rain squall. Scratch three Allied CVs with the sole survivor limping towards home. KB unscratched. That was the greatest one-sided whipping I've ever had the pleasure of administering.

On a smaller scale, Steve, I thought the loss of Yamashiro to that upgunned Dutch PG was pretty humiliating too. About as bad as it gets in terms of getting pwned.

I recall your mangling me , but I don't recall your taking that much of a whipping.

Don't underestimate that coastal defense ship. But I suspect losing Yamashiro stems more from being a long , long way from a dock yard , as well as poor Japanese DC.

Sent my six American carriers into action around Lunga and forgot to set any of fighters for CAP. Lost them all, it was not pretty.

Hey, John, I just ran the next replay. Some dude in a Zero named "Sakai, S." was shot down by a Buffalo on a training mission. It was a good game, though. 2 out of 3?

poor Japanese DC.

This was the reason. She sank 4 hexes from the action coordinates, so proximity to a good repair yard was not a realistic part of the equation.

Big Arried burry!

Technically, neither the victory nor the defeat was 'mine' on that, as our friendly Martian was controlling the IJN in that game.

Then "technically" you've never had a "big loss"?
